2008-9 in Review
As I hand
over the reins to Suzanne Smith, I want to write a brief summary of the past
year, starting with our major events:
Also the Book Club continued its regular meetings; the Alumni Schools Committee
interviewed over 400 Yale College applicants under Steve Parker's
leadership; and Rachel Shafer, our summer intern, worked with Upper
Chattahoochee Riverkeeper. Andy Dickerson SY ?90 The Year Ahead?
From an
enthusiastic group that joined coordinator Caroline Jennings to see Harvard
Beats Yale 29-29 at the Midtown Theater July 3rd to a fun-filled
Braves outing with our summer intern led by The Truong on July 19th, the
2009-2010 year is off to a great start. As incoming President of the Yale Club, I want to express my thanks on
behalf of the membership to Andy
Dickerson for all of his hard work and to all of those who worked with him
for a wonderful series of events and programs last year. This year as we transition to some new
leadership, we hope to continue on this tradition and to encourage those of you
who have not participated in a YCOG event to become more involved. I?d also like to welcome Caroline Jennings and Michelle
Bulger as Co-Presidents Elect, and Valerie
Gong, as our new Community Service Director and Summer Intern
Coordinator. For those
of you who may be new to the Yale Club, our goal is to provide opportunities
for Yale alumni to support the Yale community, to represent Yale and provide
information about Yale to the Georgia communities in which we live, and
generally join together to continue to ?experience the pleasures of Yale life?
through educational and social activities of common interest. So if you
are interested in interviewing prospective students, giving a Yale Book Award
at a local high school, or talking with prospective students about the
opportunities at Yale (including its great graduate schools), please touch base
with one of the Alumni Schools Committee Director for your local area. Interested in helping students find a summer
job, or in providing information about your field/industry? Contact Lee Nelson, our Alumni Career Network
Director. Want to
meet other local Yalies for interesting conversation over a book or in a
no-babysitter required family outing? Check out the YCOG Book Club or the Bulldogs
and Pups, parent group. Or perhaps you are ready to follow Valerie Gong and those Day of Service
folks by volunteering for a few hours of community service. Read further for more details about all of
these ongoing groups, or check out latest details and pictures on www.ycog.com and the YCOG Facebook page. As you
can see, there are lots of opportunities in store for you to connect with
fellow Yalies this fall. In order for
this year?s events, programs and activities achieve their potential, we need
you! Please take a few minutes to fill
out the enclosed membership form and join YCOG this year. Suzanne Smith '86 JE
