In 1965, the Black Alumni Chapter was established to keep black alumni connected with West Chester University. The chapter continues to do so by extending opportunities to current black students and providing a variety of educational and networking events for chapter members. The current BAC Board includes President: Latifah Fields ‘02, Vice President: Melveetia Tarry ‘04, Secretary: Stacey Thomas ’02, Treasurer: Tyrone Patton ’91, Past President: Aubria Nance ‘02, Advisor: Mark Barnes ’93.

This past April, the Black Alumni Chapter continued its support and participated in the Annual Alumni Weekend (April 24-25). The BAC held our 3rd Annual Legacy Conference, as well as an Alumni & Student BBQ. Alum and student s were able to meet-n-greet WCU’s 14th President Dr. Greg Weisenstein and First Lady Susan during the events.

Keeping up with tradition, the BAC supported the Office of Multicultural Affairs Spring 2009 Kente Ceremony. The 115 participants (largest group yet) were officially welcomed as alumni and as members of the BAC by President Latifah Fields. These graduates served as the first graduates to welcome President Weisenstein to the Kente stole tradition by providing the president with his own stole. The BAC’s participation in the Kente ceremonies continues the tradition and supports the legacy. We congratulate and welcome WCU’s newest graduates!  *Special CONGRATS to Domenique McFadden (C’09) – Past BAC Intern.

The BAC continues to organize and participate in these activities in order to create an avenue for reconnection for returning alumni and to show alumni’s support for the students. We are currently planning for this year's activities, your presence at these events gives our students hope and motivation - please get involved! Keep a look out also for the Annual Pre-July 4th social date and location.

Alumni Highlights: Mark Barnes (C’93) and wife (Orien) welcomed second daughter (Jordyn) on May 11th. Joseph Meade (C’01) was appointed in March as Director of Government Relations for the School District of Philadelphia; he previously served as a legislative director for the Philadelphia City Council and was instrumental in helping craft legislation around issues such as city business privilege licenses, city tour guide certification, citywide Youth Commission and the curfew statue.
