The work in this exhibit is from his Adobe Church Project. There are hundreds of adobe churches scattered throughout the high desert of the American Southwest. A few, still in existence, date back to the mid-1700's, while many others were established as far back as the early 1800's. Each is unique and worth exploring. They stand as symbols of deep faith, homage to centuries old customs still practiced in towns and villages found throughout New Mexico."  Click here for photo

David Addy (1986)
David Addy (VLS 1986) died on December 17, 2009. This according to the Standard Speaker. The obituary which was published on December 18, 2009 follows:

"Carbon County officials expressed sadness after learning about the death of 52-year-old Judge David W. Addy, who passed away early Thursday morning.

"The Court is deeply saddened by the death of Judge David W. Addy. We offer our deepest sympathy to his family," President Judge Roger N. Nanovic said in a statement.

A moment of silence was observed Thursday by the Carbon County Board of Commissioners, who offered condolences in the death of Addy, a well-liked, respected judge.

"I'd like to share the court's condolences on his passing to his family. He represented women in court seeking protection from abuse and when they couldn't pay their bills, many times Judge Addy would pay for them out of his own pocket. It's a sad day to lose someone who had so much to offer. It's a great loss," Chairman William O'Gurek said.

"He liked to help children who came before him in court. He's going to be missed by everyone," Commissioner Charles Getz offered.

"Judge Addy was always there for children's programs in the county. I cannot express how much he is going to be missed. He was a personal friend. He helped the county Children & Youth Agency and worked to help keep children out of the court system. He was there for boy scout programs. He is truly going to be missed," Commissioner Wayne Nothstein said.

Addy became Carbon County's 17th judge when he began serving on the Court of Common Pleas on Jan. 3, 2006. He graduated summa cum laude from Temple University in 1983. Addy received his Juris Doctor Degree from Villanova University School of Law in 1986. He also worked for 17 years as an assistant district attorney in Carbon County. Addy resided in Lehighton and is survived by his wife, Carol, three sons, Christopher, Michael and Jason and two stepchildren, Ghyslyn and Jason.

The Carbon County Court of Common Pleas is down to one judge, Nanovic, but Senior Judge Richard Webb is available, according to one official. Judge-elect Steven Serfass will begin his term in January.

Carbon County Court Administrator Roberta Brewster called his term "too short."

"He tried to be a friend to the children. He'll be sadly missed," she said.

"Judge Addy was a special kind of man with a great heart who touched a lot of lives," County Administrator and Chief Clerk Randy Smith said.
