David Wolfram (1973)
I'm very excited to tell everyone of my new career opportunity. I was recently hired as the new boat captain of the 45' "Ocean Explorer", a joint venture between the Virginia Aquarium and VWC. The new research vessel will provide valuable learning experiences for VWC students in the oceanography/marine biology programs and provide a platform for extended marine projects at the Va. Aquarium. I have spent 36 years working as an ecologist at the Va. Dept. of Environmental Quality and will retire from there in Feb., 2010.

Rebecca Desjardins (2003)
MSA, P.C. recently welcomed Rebecca Desjardins (class of 2003) as Marketing Coordinator, creating a two-person marketing team at its Virginia Beach location.

Desjardins, a Virginia Beach resident, comes to MSA from Virginia Wesleyan College in Norfolk, Va., where she worked for six years in the Office of College Communications, most recently serving as Executive Director, chief communications officer for the College. A 2003 graduate of Virginia Wesleyan with a Bachelor of Arts in Communications (journalism and media studies), Desjardins brings to MSA experience in a variety of communications specialties, including writing, marketing, public relations, media relations, and internal and external communications.

As Marketing Coordinator at MSA, reporting to the Marketing Director, her main responsibilities will be in business development, preparing proposals and statements of qualification in response to Requests for Proposals published by public agencies and private sector companies, and other public relations and marketing tasks.

MSA, P.C. is a regional consulting firm established in 1973 with offices in Hampton Roads and Virginia’s Eastern Shore. The firm specializes in environmental sciences, planning, surveying, civil and environmental engineering, and landscape architecture for public and private projects.

Jennifer Jones (2006)
Jennifer Jones (2006) recently completed U.S. Navy basic training at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes, Ill. During the eight-week program a variety of training was completed which included classroom study and practical instruction on naval customs, first aid, firefighting, water safety and survival, and shipboard and aircraft safety.

Theresa Flagg (1999) has been awarded one of the nation’s most prestigious graduate fellowships in journalism and mass communication.

Theresa will pursue a master’s degree as a Roy H. Park Fellow at the UNC School of Journalism and Mass Communication.

I am employed by Raytheon Information Solutions, Hampton, VA. The NASA Langley GIS Team is a recipient of the 2009 Special Achievement Award in GIS for outstanding accomplishments in geospatial technology."

Michele Yardumian (1983)
Michele Yardumian's (1983) newest book of the Faeltheon series is now available for order!

Run Before the Wind: Book Two of the Faeltheon, the sequel to The Alliance, is a soft cover, illustrated fantasy novel, with many appendices in the back, including one on the Faeltheon language.

This book is currently available by order from Amazon.com, Barnes & Noble.com, Christianbook.com, tatepublishing.com, Barnes & Noble store at Cottonwood, and the St James TeaRoom Gift Shop (in stock).

You can, of course, order it from any local bookstore - it's available through Ingram distributors.

Kimberly Stinedurf (2007)
Kimberly Stinedurf (2007) writes, "I finished my Master's degree at Old Dominion University in July 2009. My thesis is entitled, "'In This Time of Close Trial:' How Quakerism Shaped Women's Roles and Political Activism, September 1777-April 1778." Now that I have finished my Master's, I am moving to Delaware, as I was accepted to the University of Delaware's history Ph.D. program. My Ph.D. is fully-funded, and I intend to focus on Early American religion and gender. Finally, I recently published my first article in the Tuckasegee Valley Historical Review. The article, "Move Them, Work Them, or Kill Them: Understanding the Interactions between Antebellum Americans and the California Indians during the Gold Rush, 1848-1855," is featured in the sping 2009 edition of the journal."

Candice Whitney (2006)
Coast Guard Seaman Candice N. Whitney (2006) recently graduated from the U.S. Coast Guard Recruit Training Center in Cape May, N. J.

During the eight-week training program, Whitney completed a vigorous
training curriculum consisting of academics and practical instruction on
water safety and survival, military customs and courtesies, seamanship
skills, first aid, fire fighting and marksmanship. A major emphasis is
also placed on physical fitness, health and wellness.

Whitney and other recruits also received instruction on the Coast
Guard's core values -- honor, respect and devotion to duty -- and how to
apply them in their military performance and personal conduct. Whitney will join 36, 000 other men and women who comprise Coast Guard's force.

Men and women train together from the first day in the Coast Guard just
as they do aboard ships and shore units throughout the world. To reinforce
the team concept, Whitney, and other recruits were trained in preventing
sexual harassment, drug and alcohol awareness, civil rights training, and
the basics of the work-life balance, as well as total quality management.

Bladen Finch (2003)
Bladen Finch (2003) has received membership in the American Society of Legislative Clerks and Secretaries (ASLCS). Bladen is employed with the Senate of Virginia at the State Captiol in Richmond. He is also an active member of the Historic Lawrenceville Revitalization Association, a 501 (c) organization in Southside Virginia geared towards boosting tourism, attracting specialized businesses, and educating the public on the importance of patronizing local merchants.

Joshua Brown (2004)
The Tipping Point, a band featuring three Virginia Wesleyan alumni (Dan Pellegrino '05, Andy Craft '07 and Josh Brown '04), will be performing at The NorVA on Friday, June 12th at 6 p.m. Funds for the concert will benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure.
