I'm very excited to tell everyone of my new career opportunity. I was recently hired as the new boat captain of the 45' "Ocean Explorer", a joint venture between the Virginia Aquarium and VWC. The new research vessel will provide valuable learning experiences for VWC students in the oceanography/marine biology programs and provide a platform for extended marine projects at the Va. Aquarium. I have spent 36 years working as an ecologist at the Va. Dept. of Environmental Quality and will retire from there in Feb., 2010. Submitted on Nov 20 2009. Cory (Lexo) Ferreira (2002) Cory (Lexo) Ferreira (2002) and Chris Ferreira are proud to announce the birth of a baby girl, Julianne Marie. She was born on June 11, 2009 in Virginia Beach, VA, and weighed 6 lb., 14 oz.. Julianne joins big sister Adelle (2yrs old). Submitted on Nov 12 2009. Theresa Flagg (1999) Theresa Flagg (1999) of Tobaccoville has been chosen as a Roy H. Park Fellow at the UNC Chapel Hill's School of Journalism and Mass Communication. The fellowship includes full tuition and fees, health insurance, an annual stipend, and research and travel funds. She will begin the master's program this fall. Submitted on Nov 10 2009. Julia Green (2004) Julia Green (2004) and Jeremey Marks were married on July 11, 2009 in Virginia Beach, Virginia. Virginia Wesleyan alumni who participated in the ceremony included: Ryan Molloy (2000), Merrie (Tobler) Mayner (2003), Sharon (Hay) Stokes (2005), and Kristen Byrnes (2007). The ceremony was officiated by fellow Virginia Wesleyan alumnus and former VWC chaplain Robert "Chappy" Chapman (1979). Julia is a reporter with the Catskill Mountain News in upstate New York and recently wrote a play that will be produced this fall; Jeremey is a teacher, coach and athletic director at Margaretville Central School. Victoria (Lowell) Walker (1994) Victoria (Lowell) Walker (1994) received a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) in Education with majors in Higher Education - Research and Institutional Planning and Distance Education from Regent University's School of Education May 2009.
