Wendell Franklin (2004)
Taylor Franklin, 2004, will serve a five-year term as board chairman at Norfolk Collegiate. He is chief operating officer and principal of The Franklin Johnston Group, a multifamily management and development company he co-founded in 2013. Franklin began his commercial real estate career in 2004 at S.L. Nusbaum where he became a vice president and partner, concentrating on real estate development. His primary focus at The Franklin Johnston Group is locating new development opportunities for the company's multifamily communities as well as identifying and analyzing existing communities for acquisition. Franklin is a member of the Tocqueville Society, the board of the Virginia Gentlemen and Access College Foundation and is vice president of the Chesapeake Bay Wine Classic Foundation. He also served as a member of the Southeastern Chapter of St. Jude Children's Research Hospital board for six years. He is a 2000 graduate of Norfolk Collegiate and received a bachelor's in history from Virginia Wesleyan College. He and his wife have three children; one attends kindergarten at Norfolk Collegiate.

Amanda Elliott (2001)
Amanda Elliott (2001) was promoted to assistant vice president at TowneBank. She is the website and online product coordinator for e-channel marketing and is headquartered at TowneBank's Member Service Center in Suffolk. She has worked for TowneBank for nearly three years and has 13 years of marketing experience. She received a bachelor's in mass communications.

Donna (Stoiber) Palmer (1995)
Donna (Stoiber) Palmer (1995) joined the board of the Tidewater Chapter of the Virginia Center for Inclusive Communities.

As business development manager for the Hampton Roads region at Long & Foster Corporate Real Estate Services, Palmer works with relocating families worldwide. Palmer serves on the Hampton Arts Foundation Board and co-chairs its fundraising committee.

She holds professional memberships with SHRM National, the Hampton Roads Chamber of Commerce, the Hampton Roads Economic Development Alliance and the Hampton Roads Green Building Council.

Palmer earned a bachelor's in biology and philosophy at Virginia Wesleyan College and completed graduate studies in administration at Central Michigan University.

Katherine Tassa ()
Out of 1500 applicants for the 58th Virginia Beach Police Academy, 46 were selected... And on January 9, 28 graduated including our very own 2014 graduate and VWC WBB team captain #3 Katie Tassa! Officer Tassa was also recognized for finishing with the HIGHEST ACADEMIC STANDING in the class with a 96.1 average! Congratulations Officer Katie Tassa!!!

Christine Cipriani (1991)
Christine Cipriani (1991) recently accepted a position at Studio Center located in Virginia Beach, VA as Vice President of New Entertainment Division. "January 7, 2015. Studio Center, the country’s largest commercial production company, is pleased to announce the addition of Christine Cipriani Jones as the Vice President of the company’s recently launched division, “Studio Center Entertainment”.

Jones, previously the Director of Development at m2 Pictures, has been successful in the television industry for 25 years and has played a key role in launching cable shows into national syndication. Amongst her production credits, Jones boasts work on an impressive roster of syndicated and cable programs, including Dr. Phil, Crossing Over with John Edward and House Hunters International. Jones’ work has appeared on hundreds of cable networks like A&E, Animal Planet, Bravo, Discovery, E!, ESPN, Food Network, HGTV, the Hallmark Channel, MSNBC, OWN, SyFy, TLC, the Travel Channel and TruTV, to name just a few.

“Studio Center Entertainment” will be developing and producing original non-fiction television and online content. Jones and her team of award-winning producers, directors and editors already have 20 projects currently in development and are accepting ideas for new original programming at www.studiocenterentertainment.com.

Commenting on Jones and “Studio Center Entertainment”, William “Woody” Prettyman, CEO of Studio Center, said "We targeted 3 people almost two years ago and she was at the very top of the list! We’re all extremely excited about this new launch and Christine’s ability to lead it!"

Peyton Hatcher ()
Alex Hatcher, program coordinator with Older Adult Services, is the October 2014 Dare County Employee of the Month.

Sandy Scarborough, Dare County Center director, presented Hatcher with the award at the Oct. 6 Board of Commissioners meeting.

Hatcher has worked as program coordinator for the Dare County Center since August 2009. She is responsible for creating, coordinating and implementing a variety of programming and special events at the Dare County Center.

She teaches technology classes for older adults, works with the Monarch Beach Club and is the co-instructor for the Dare County Special Olympics cheerleaders. Hatcher is also the backup fitness coordinator at the Dare County Center and teaches weekly chair aerobics, Zumba and Zumba Gold classes.

“Alex is hard-working and dedicated to her job. She is extremely community minded, serving on several committees and participating in many community events, raising awareness for causes that are near and dear to her heart,” Scarborough said during the presentation.

Born and raised in Dare County, Hatcher is a 2005 Manteo High School graduate. After completing a degree in Recreation & Leisure Studies from Virginia Wesleyan University, Hatcher returned to Dare County and completed an internship with the Dare County Parks and Recreation Department.

Michael Jacobson (1977)
Michael Jacobson died in Norfolk, VA on October 10, 2014.

Mary Hodges (1981)
Mary Hodges (1981) died on May 26, 2014. Mary Cornelia Leesnitzer Hodges, 87, of Lynn Shores Drive went home to be with her Lord May 26, 2014 and to join her loving husband of 68 years who preceded her on May 17, 2014. She was the daughter of Joseph C. and Mollie Harrell Leesnitzer; she was also predeceased by her son, Joseph. Mary was a member of South Norfolk Congregational Christian Church; a graduate of Granby High School and Virginia Wesleyan College. Mary loved to volunteer her time and for many years was the historian for the Board of Circles at CHKD and Past President of the Thalia Hope Circle at CHKD; she volunteered with the Virginia Beach Juvenile and Domestic Relations Courts; Lees Friends; and later in life worked towards her EMT Certification with the Virginia Beach Fire and Rescue.

Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, Susan Hodges; sons, W. Nelson Hodges, Jr. (Jennifer) and Stephen Hodges (Melinda); and grandchildren, Nicholas (Jennifer), Elizabeth and Nathan.

A service to celebrate her life was held Thursday, May 29, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Graham Funeral Home with Pastor Amos Eby officiating. She was laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. Please visit her book of memories at www.grahamfuneralhome.com
