President's Statement at 1st AGM on 8th April, 2006
The year 2005 was a significant one for graduates of the University of Oklahoma (OU) in Singapore. It was the year the OU Club (Singapore) was formed. The pro-temp committee worked hard and succeeded in getting the Club registered on 27 May 2005.
Immediately after that, a logo and an official website were designed and commissioned for the Club. The subsequent membership drive succeeded in attracting 44 people to join. The pro-temp committee did a very good, fast and efficient setup.
The OU Club (S) was formed with two main objectives. First is to provide a legal entity for OU graduates to gather, renew old relationships, and to make new ones with other graduates. Second objective is to continue to maintain the link between OU graduates in Singapore with their Alma Mater in the USA. For the past year, both of these objectives have been achieved.
In conclusion, the significant achievements for the past year were: setting up the Club as a legal entity, commissioning of the logo and website, gaining 44 members, organizing three Club events, and maintaining active contact with OU.
We hope that next year will be an exciting and challenging year. We believe that the Club can scale greater heights while maintaining focus on its objectives. One of the areas that the Club can explore going into is to participate in charitable events. We feel that this would be a good way for us to give back to society and we hope to get your support in this area.
We also plan to have events that will bring member's family into the picture. With such an approach we will grow together as an extended family, cementing our links even further.
Finally, OU Club (S) should continue to network beyond Singapore. We should connect with fellow Sooners in the ASEAN and China region, while continuing to maintain our strong link with OU.
What this Club can achieve is up to our imagination and not so much limited by the size of its membership. That is what the Sooner spirit is all about. Let us push it to greater heights. Go Sooners....
Mr. Samuel Lim Kwee-Yan
President 2005-2007
