Currently very much excited by non-profit work for public school systems. It's catching hold in Springfield, Check it out and pass it along. It's nationwide, started by teachers *for* teachers and students. It's vital.

William Koch
(1955, NSM )
William C. Koch Jr (1955, NSM) has published a book entitled, "The Diary of Elsie Kleiner Koch 1932" (JeanShadrack Publishing). "This book is nonfiction and based on a diary kept by my mother," writes Koch. "It tells the story of her life in 1932 (during the Great Depression) in the town of Adams, Massachusetts. She experiences happy times and sad times during the period covered by the book. By changing the name of the town and the families involved, this could be the story of most towns and families in Massachusetts during that year."

Ken Lambert
(1996, NRE )
Ken Lambert (1996) writes, "Hello all alumni- It is difficult to put this in the "highlight" category, but I suppose it will do. Most of you have heard of my story, but wouldn't know that I graduated from UMass Amherst. My wife, Danielle, and I started a charitable nonprofit organization called Keep Sound Minds, following the tragic death of our only 2 children, and my wife's sister. Today we are focused on improving how society deals with mental disorder and mental health concerns. For more information, please visit our website-
www.keepsoundminds.org
A last note- on March 28th in Boston we are having a large dinner/ fundraiser and if anyone is interested in attending, you can register online on our site. Thanks for reading. Have a great 2009!-Ken L."

Christine Ericson
(1976, D )
Christine Ericson (1976) writes, "Hi!
I'm going to be on the official election ballot in Vermont for the General Election, Nov. 4, 2008 as a candidate for Governor of Vermont and as a candidate for U.S. Congress, House of Representatives.
In Vermont, an independent candidate may chose descriptive words after their name on the ballot, rather than "independent" in order to distinguish themselves from other independent candidates. (In Vermont, "independent" is not a political party.)
My website changes frequently, and I am always open to suggestions!

Timothy Durkin
(1989, SBS )
Tim Durkin (1989) writes, "I just returned from Hajduboszormeny, Hungary, where I was part of a Habitat for Humanity's Global Village program. I joined a group of 14 strangers to help families to build modest homes for themselves and their children. By the end of the week we had become great friends. It was a great way to help others (and in a way myself) and an awesome way to see a new country and culture. Other than having kids, this has been one of the highlights of my life."

Lawrence Siddall
(1981, ED )
Lawrence Siddall (1981) Ed.D. writes, "I have just published a Peace Corps memoir, Two Years in Poland and Other Stories, which describes my "late-life adventure" as a Peace Corps volunteer in Poland where I taught English in a high school from 1997 to 1999 following my retirement. As a 67-year-old grandfather, I was one of only 450 senior Peace Corps volunteers out of 6,500 worldwide. My memoir describes the challenges I face in the Polish classroom, my struggle to learn the language, initial feelings of isolation in adjusting to a new culture, and the close friends I eventually make. I have since returned to Poland twice.
I also weave other stories into my narrative as flashbacks, the longest of which tells of an amazing 11,000-mile overland trek from Europe to India in a VW Beetle in 1956 at a time of political Mid-East instability. My account of working my way back to the U.S. on a freighter is a colorful final chapter in my five-month-long odyssey.
Born in China where my father was a medical missionary, I grew up in Oberlin, Ohio. I am a 1952 graduate of Oberlin College and hold advanced degrees from the University of Connecticut and the University of Massachusetts. I am a retired psychotherapist and live in Amherst, MA
