Now in its third year, the Tailgate Spirit Challenge pits The UH Alumni Association's many different constituent groups in a battle of BBQ and Cougar pride. Held every Homecoming, the competition can get fierce, and a group of "celebrity" judges—last year's included Dr. Simon Bott, beloved chemistry professor, Dr. William Munson, Dean of Students, and Tonja Jones, Vice President for Alumni and Student Programs—have the enviable job of walking tent to tent, trying all the delicious food.

The deadline to enter 2009 challenge is Friday, October 16!

Got Your Wristband Yet?

Support UH students with an "EYES ON THE PRIDE" wristband! Show your Cougar pride with this token of thanks, free with your $10 donation to the 2009 UH Homecoming scholarship campaign.

You may pick up your wristband from the UH Alumni Association office during regular business hours (UH Athletics/Alumni Center @ 3100 Cullen Blvd. Rm 201).

Select alumni groups are participating in a scholarship fundraising contest. On the giving page, please select which alumni group you would like to support by entering your donation next to the appropriate group. The UH alumni group that raises the most scholarship money will win that portion of the Tailgate Challenge contest. Scholarship money will be applied to various scholarships offered through the alumni groups of the UH Alumni Association.

2008 Winners

Though bragging rights go a long way, the scholarship component of the Tailgate Spirit Challenge also allows UHAA constituent groups the chance to earn points toward their Banner Year Awards. Last season, a $10 scholarship gift came with a free "Power of Red" wristband, and fans can expect a new wristband with a new slogan for 2009. Category winners for 2008 were:

• Grand Champion - Fort Bend Club/Technology Alumni Association
• Best Food - Pharmacy Alumni Association
• Most Spirited - UH Bands Alumni
• Most Scholarship Dollars Raised - Black Alumni Association/UH Cougars Athletics Alliance/Black Leadership Network
