Legislative Advocacy
As a 501(c)(3) non-profit, The University of Houston Alumni Association (UHAA) can advocate in legislative circles on behalf of the University of Houston in far more aggressive ways than the university can on its own behalf. With an alumni base 200,000 strong, concentrated mostly in the State of Texas, we ask you to join our cause.
Check this page for up-to-date information on the university's current legislative agenda and the marching orders we need you to carry out.
Proposition 4
On November 3, 2009, Texas voters will be asked to approve a constitutional amendment that will dramatically affect higher education in our state. Basically, Proposition 4 reappropriates existing funds as a pathway for seven state schools to become Tier One research universities.
UHAA fully endorses the passage of Proposition 4 and encourages all Texans to vote in support of it. This isn't only a matter of benefiting the University of Houston—it's a matter of improving higher education in Texas for everyone. Learn more about what you can do to ensure that this important amendment passes.
Chairman Wilson's Brigade
Welcome Wilson, Sr. ('49), Chairman of the University of Houston Board of Regents, has organized a Chairman's Brigade, asking alumni who are well-connected or have existing relationships with state and federal legislators to volunteer nothing more than their time. You will be asked to call legislators, meet with legislators, and always speak from a well-informed perspective that supports UH's aim for Top One status.
If you would like to join the Chairman's Brigade, contact Chairman Wilson at wwilsonsr@gslwelcome.com or contact the alumni association at alumni@uh.edu to see what the Brigade is currently doing.
