Outstanding Faculty/Staff Awards

Every year, the University of Houston Alumni Association honors deserving UH faculty and staff with our Outstanding Faculty Awards and Outstanding Staff Awards. Winners will receive $1,500 and be honored at the Life Member Circle of Excellence Reception on January 20, 2010 at Wortham House, home to UH Chancellor and President Renu Khator.

Alumni, students, and fellow faculty/staff are all encouraged to nominate someone by completing the online nomination forms: nominate a faculty member | nominate a staff member. The nomination deadline for our 2009 awards is December 1, so hurry up!

Outstanding Faculty Award

• Nominees who are tenured or tenure-track faculty members must have been full-time at UH for at least three years and currently hold the rank of assistant professor, associate professor, or professor.
• Nominees who are non-tenured or non-tenure track faculty members must have been at UH for at least five years.
• Nominees must have the prospect and intent of continuing as a member of the University faculty for the next academic year.
• If nominated, nominees will agree to release the annual evaluations of students, department chair or dean for consideration by the selection committee if requested.
• Nominees should have a consistent pattern of teaching excellence and commitment to strengthening the bond between students and the University.  Examples include serving as an advisor to a recognized student organization or participating in student or alumni programs.
• Previous winners are not eligible to win again until after three years.

Outstanding Staff Award

• Full-time, benefits-eligible exempt or non-exempt UH (main campus) employees who have at least three years of full-time service.
• Nominees must have the prospect and intent of continuing as a member of the University staff for the next academic year.
• Nominees must be involved with UH activities (i.e. student, athletics, alumni).
• Dependability, cooperative spirit, loyalty to the University, and effectiveness in performing assigned duties are qualities that will be important in the selection.  However, specific examples of how the employee has consistently “gone beyond the call of duty” or “gone the extra mile” will be helpful to the committee in selecting an outstanding staff.
• Previous winners are not eligible to win again until after three years.
• UHAA staff, UHAA Board, UHAA Alumni Council members and their immediate relatives are not eligible for the award.
