Introducing our alumnus of the month:

Jeff Rowe, BA Geography '71, Mānoa
President of the UH Alumni Association Los Angeles/Orange County Chapter

Jeff Rowe has been a journalist for almost 30 years, reporting and producing for television, radio, newspapers, magazines and online. He's been a broadcast writer for the Associated Press, a staff writer for the Wall Street Journal and broadcast editor for the Orange County Register, coordinating coverage between the newspaper and its radio and television partners. He also worked on the Register's website. Rowe is a former Air Force officer and graduate of the University of Hawai'i.

He teaches Com 202 -- broadcast news writing -- at California State University Fullerton. He's the author of "Broadcast News Writing for Professionals," published in 2005 by Marion Street Press.

"The University of Hawai‘i was for me, the perfect school. Every course I took has been useful to my work, meeting students from around the world and learning island culture was an education in itself and four of us who became friends during our UH years remain close to this day and get together regularly. For all of this, I owe the University of Hawai‘i a debt I really can never repay. Our Los Angeles chapter is blessed with some of the most giving people imaginable -- alums who on project after project contribute selflessly to our school. Yet another benefit of a UH education is that throughout life, we can work with such dedicated people. Working on chapter projects is an honor and also a lot of fun. I think I can speak for all us when I say that a great joy in our lives is that we all can say 'I'm a University of Hawai‘i alum.'"

The UHAA Los Angeles/Orange County chapter represents UH at several local college fairs each year. One of UHAA's most active chapters, they host send-offs for incoming UH freshmen and also host visiting UH athletics teams for dinner.
