Welcome to TIM International, Inc.
In the years since the TIM School's first students completed their degrees, TIM graduates have made significant strides in their professional careers in Hawaii, on the US Mainland and in the Asia-Pacific region, fulfilling TIM's mission of educating and training students to assume leadership roles in the travel industry around the world. While the majority of TIM graduates choose to live and work in Hawaii, many begin their careers elsewhere; over 75 percent hold either managerial or professional positions. Many firms in the travel industry recruit their new management trainees from the TIM School. Some graduates find work where they once held internships; others use the TIM School's career placement service for their job leads.
A strong alumni association, TIM International, Inc. provides opportunities for ongoing professional development and a network of TIM graduates. It also is a great way for TIM alumni to keep in touch with their classmates and a way for them to contribute, as one group, back to the TIM School.
The TIM School constantly strives to keep in touch with its fast-moving alumni to keep their data as current as possible. Keeping in touch with the TIM School ensures that alumni receive event and association communication, including the TIM School newsletter. Updates on alumni are also regularly reported in the TIM School newsletter to showcase their success.
If you are an alumnus, and would like to update your contact information, let the School know about your latest job changes, or to become a TIM International Alumni Association member, send an email to tikeno@hawaii.edu or click here for direct access to the UHAA membership page. *Make sure you select TIM International, Inc as your chapter choice.

The Ambassador L.W. "Bill" Lane Lecture on Sustainable Tourism
|

The Ambassador Bill Lane Lecture on Sustainable Tourism was held on October 28 at the TIm School. This year's topic was Economic Sustainability for Hawaii Tourism: Asisan Perspectives. Four distinguished alumni from Asia share their expertise: Aliana Ho ('73), VP of Sales and Travel Trade Marketing for Hong Kong Disneyland; Clyde Min ('71), VP of Asset Management for Pacifica Partners in Singapore; Tsuyoshi Sakata ('71), President of TSC Consulting in Hawaii; and Alex Kong ('94), Founder of AsiaTravelMart.com in Hong Kong. The event was attended by 100 faculty, staff, students, and guests, including Senator Will Espero and Representative Karen Awana.
|
The presentations underscored the competitiveness of tourism as a global industry and what Hawaii needs to do in order to attract and accommodate the lucrative Asian market, which represents 60 percent of the world's population. Their message was that the tourism picture is fast changing and now other destinations in the Asia Pacific region are offering superior infrastructure and facilities, technologies and service.
The speakers warned that Hawaii is falling behind and is in danger of being bypassed. They were consistent in calling for Hawaii to take a hard look at its product development, service quality and innovative communication technologies. They emphasized that in order for this to work, it requires the political will and commitment, building relationships within the industry here and abroad, as well as support and collaboration from the community.
As a primary vehicle for tourism education in the State that supports the visitor industry, the TIM School has a vital role to play in all these areas.

TIMI Alumni Mixer - ZenShu Restaurant
|
TIMI hosted a TIM Alumni Mixer at ZenShu Restaurant in Kapahulu on Wednesday, October 28, 2009, to welcome four international TIM alumni who had traveled here from Asia to guest speak at the TIM School's Lane Lecture event. The Mixer turned out to ba a fun-filled evening. The food at the restaurant, which was specially prepared by the owner and fellow TIM alumni Wilson Chan, was great! the kalbi and mochiko chicken were delicious and there was also a unique Asian infused green salad that was very tasty. The atmosphere was perfect in a laid-back Japanese style sports bar, great for an event or a night out with friends. The event turned out to be a huge success and everyone had a wonderful time. Mahalo to Wilson for allowing us to have our event at his restaurant and for preparing such good food!
