He is former leader of the Democratic Party of Hawai'i, the Hawai'i Government Employees Association, and the American Public Administration Society. Dr. Miwa is also former President of the Hawai'i Chapter of the Association for United Nations.  He received a BA in Political Science in 1948 and a MA in Arts and Sciences in 1950 from the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. He received a PhD in Government from Johns Hopkins University in 1953. Ralph M. Miwa was posthumously honored as a 1992 UH Distinguished Alumnus at the UHAA Annual Dinner.  His widow, Mrs. Hilda Miwa, accepted the award on his behalf.",

James Walker unexpectedly passed away on March 2, 1992.  His widow, Mrs. Monica Walker accepted the award on his behalf.",
