What is Front Gate Online?Front Gate Online, TCD alumni community is a password protected website that allows you view and update your contact details, connect with other alumni and support current students. For more information, read the FAQs or Register Now!
Who manages Front Gate Online?Front Gate Online is operated by TCD Alumni. This office is responsible for keeping all alumni (and friends) in touch with the College and each other through regular communications, events, regional branches and affinity groups. What does alumni mean & who are the alumni of TCD?Alumni simply means graduates or former students of the College. There are over 90,000 alumni worldwide.
Who can join Front Gate Online?Front Gate Online is a service for all alumni of the College; however some alumni have opted out of communications with the College or chose not to have their record transferred to Front Gate Online. Find out more about Front Gate Online.
How do I register?All you need to register is your student number, name, date of birth and a valid email address. Follow four simple steps:
How do I get my Student Number?Your student number is an eight digit number printed on all alumni communications from the Alumni office and is required for registering for Front Gate Online. If you don't know your student number or you have not received any recent communication from TCD Alumni, you can still register via an account request form which simply requires more information to identify your record
I can't find my record, what should I do?If you cannot find your record you may not be on Front Gate Online because you chose to opt out of communications from the College or your official record was not transferred to Front Gate Online, find out more about Front Gate Online. Alternatively you can complete an account request form and we'll try to match to your details.
Why can't I verify my record?If you are having trouble verifying your record it may be that the information you are entering does not match our records. Simply complete an account request form and we'll try to match to your details for you.
How do I 'Update My Profile'?Front Gate Online allows members to view and update their personal details, address information and business information. Members can also join branch and affinity groups or change their communications preferences via the Update My Profile page. Click on the section you wish to update, add or change your information and save your changes to your profile.
Why can't I change certain information?Certain information on your profile is part of your official College record and therefore cannot be changed. This information includes your degree, year of graduation and qualifications. Your student number is also a fixed field. If details in your profile are incorrect email alumni.relations@tcd.ie and we can raise the issue with the College records office.
What is my 'Primary Degree Course Name'?Your primary degree course name is the name of the first course you completed in Trinity. If you have completed multiple Trinity degrees we are referring to the one you graduated from first. View an extensive list of course names.
What are 'Abbreviated Qualifications'?Your abbreviated qualifications are the letters associated with your degree or award e.g. B.A. for Bachelor of Arts. Only your Trinity qualifications will appear in your abbreviated qualifications, all other degrees from other institutions are stored in the 'Other Degree' field in your profile. What is the Alumni Directory?The Alumni Directory contains all the relevant information of TCD alumni held on Front Gate Online. It is a great resource for personal and professional networking and an easy way to keep up-to-date with fellow alumni.
Do students have access to Front Gate Online?Registered students of the College only have access to the Career Network service on Front Gate Online. They can only search and view profiles for alumni who have joined the Career Network.
How do I search for alumni?You can search for fellow alumni using the basic and advanced search options on Front Gate Online. The basic search allows you to search by name, degree and year of graduation. The advanced search facilitates more complex searches including location, group membership, etc. For more information on how to use the search function see the Search Tips.
What is 'blind' email?Front Gate Online offers a 'blind' email service which allows members to contact fellow alumni via email without having their email address viewable. For example John can search for Michael in the Alumni Directory and when he finds his record he can click the 'Email Michael' link. John will not be able to see Michael's email (which is hidden) but Michael will be able to view John's email so he can reply.
How do I register for an event?Visit our Upcoming Events page and search for events by date or type. If you are a member of Front Gate Online Login to your account and the event form will automatically populate your details while you select the number of tickets and payment type (where there is a charge). Some events are open to Trinity alumni only while others are open to the public. For public events you do not need to log into Front Gate Online, however if you are a member it saves you the hassle of entering your details again!
What is the 'Career Network'?The Career Network connects alumni and students to facilitate career planning and research online, allowing you to share your experience and learn from others. You may choose to offer your support to students and fellow alumni or search the network for a contact of relevance to you.
How do I join the 'Career Network'?To join the Career Network simply tick 'I would like to join the Career Network' and select some key words on topics you can give advice on e.g. interview skills, engineering, business etc. Update your professional information so interested students and alumni can contact you by industry, organisation or area of expertise. You can change your preferences at any time if you want to be removed from the Career Network.
How can I join a branch or affinity group?To join a regional branch (like the London Dining Club) or an affinity group (like the Trinity Business Alumni), simply select the group from the drop down menu. You will then start to receive updates from the group. Join a Group.
Why should I update my clubs and societies?Updating your clubs and societies allows these student groups to contact you about news and special events. It also provides a historical record of your experience at Trinity. Update my club/society information.
What are 'Class Notes'?Class Notes are short updates and news items that allow alumni to share their stories with their peers. These notes can be searched by members of Front Gate Online by name, year of graduation and subject of study. Class notes may also be featured in TCD's alumni e-zine or annual Trinity Today publication.
How do I leave a 'Class Note'?Submit your news on the Class Notes page or email alumni.relations@tcd.ie. Submissions should be no longer than 50 words and ideally accompanied by a photo.
How do I upload a photo?You can choose to upload a profile picture or include an image with your class note. To do so browse your computer to select your image. Once you've located your image click 'Upload Photo'. For more detailed instructions see the Photo Upload Guidelines.
How do I make a donation?Visit our Make a Gift page to donate to the College. Select your region and choose a fund you would like to support, you will then be redirected to the relevant donation form. If you are a member of Front Gate Online you can Login before beginning the process and your details will automatically populate the donation form while you can choose your donation amount and payment type. How do I change my password?Front Gate Online members can change their password via the Member Services page.
I've forgotten my login details how can I retrieve them?As a Front Gate Online member you can recover your user name and password via the Member Services page. To do so you must use the email address registered to the Front Gate Online community.
How do I change my Privacy Preferences?As a Front Gate Online member you can change your privacy preferences via the Update My Profile page and clicking on the Communications Preferences section. Members can choose to receive communications via mail, email and telephone. Read more about the Front Gate Online Privacy Policy.
What is the Alumni Office?TCD Alumni (run from the offices of Trinity Foundation) is responsible for keeping all alumni (and friends) in touch with the College and each other through regular communications, events, regional branches and affinity groups. We also manage the Trinity Annual Fund, the primary fund through which alumni (and friends) contribute to the College. For more information, visit the Alumni & Friends website.
What is the Student & Graduate Records Office?The Student & Graduate Records office is responsible for conducting all commencement ceremonies including diploma & certificate award ceremonies, certifying qualifications awarded and copies of degree parchments and handling all Seanad Éireann Electoral matters in the DU constituency.
