Dear Keystone State Orange:
It is with great pleasure that, after two years of e-mails, telephone calls, applications, designs, re-designs and in-person meetings, I am thrilled to announce that we can now purchase vanity license plates for any car(s) that are registered in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania. This is a major accomplishment both for the Club and alums in Pennsylvania. To view a sample plate, click here.
I’d like to thank everyone who has assisted both on the local and University levels over the past two years to help get this project to the finish line. Now that our goal of PA alumni plates has been reached, we’re now concentrating our efforts on Delaware so that fellow alums in "The First State" can show their Orange Pride as well! New Jersey remains on hold for the time being, though, due to strict rules and requirements out of the NJ Motor Vehicle Commission in Trenton. I have recently had fresh discussions with my fellow Club Presidents in the North and Central Jersey Clubs as well as the New York City Club to revisit the idea and see if any alums in our networks are involved with or have connections at the NJ MVC. Once that happens, we’ll REALLY have the tri-state area covered! Click here for a sample of the proposed NJ plate.
Now onto the details for Pennsylvania plates:
How do I get my own plate?
All you need to do is complete and return this form: (MV-904SP) and your plate(s) should arrive within 4 – 6 weeks. Fill-in the highlighted sections (“A” and “D”) and mail with payment to the Club at:
Syracuse University Philadelphia Alumni Club – PA Alumni License Plates
P.O. Box 59527
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 19102
**NOTE: If you lease your car(s), you will also need to complete and return this form MV-1L , “Application for Lessee Information” with your plate application(s).**
How much do they cost?
PA SU Alumni license plates cost a total of $60 per plate. This is a onetime fee for the production and registration of your plate(s). Per the DMV, any resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania who orders this plate must be a member in good standing of the Alumni Association. Therefore, there are fees included in the price of these plates which will represent a one-time “License Plate Membership” payment. You are still encouraged to be a member in good standing of your local alumni club as well.
Checks should be made payable to: “Syracuse University Philadelphia Alumni Club” and mailed to the PO Box listed above. All proceeds raised will go directly to the scholarship fund, awarded annually to an incoming freshman. (All funds raised above the initial $20 production fee charged by PennDOT—minus the up-front design and processing fees previously paid—will go to the scholarship fund. Therefore, approximately $40 from each license plate sold will go to the scholarship fund.)
I look forward to seeing our new SU Pennsylvania Alumni plates on the road throughout Pennsylvania and the entire East Coast! Should you have any questions or require additional info, please do not hesitate to contact us at suphillyalumni@yahoo.com.
Go Orange!
