Dr. Denise Logan-Heuser

Elsie Owens M.A. 1978 (deceased)

Elsie Owens and her husband, Robert Owens, moved to Gordon Heights in 1959. She became a community activist almost at once, starting with a campaign to get the roads in Gordon Heights paved.

 


Michael Zeitlin B.A. 1975, M.A. 1980

Michael enrolled as an undergraduate student at Stony Brook University in 1975 studying Earth and Space Science. After receiving his bachelor's degree, he moved on to pursue his Masters in Marine Environmental Science's at Stony Brooks Marine Science Research Center.



 

Michael Manoussos B.A. 1989

Michael enrolled at Stony Brook University in 1985 and began studying Political Science. While raising a family and being a full-time student, he was also involved in a work-study program for the Political Science Department.

Mark Snyder is president of Mark J. Snyder Financial
Services, Inc., a full service financial consulting firm. He is a Managing Executive of Royal Alliance Associates, Inc., an NASD registered broker/dealer, and a division of AIG.

Gloria Snyder is Vice President of Mark J. Snyder
Financial Services, Inc., a full service financial consulting firm. Gloria received her Bachelor of Arts Degree.


 


 

Gene Mundie M.S. 2001

Gene was the sixth child of 11 children. Inspired by his mother, Gene studied for his nursing diploma at Bellevue and Mills School of Nursing in 1960. After receiving his license he worked as a nurse in several New York area hospitals, then returned to school and received his Bachelor of Science in Nursing.


Elinor Schoenfeld B.S. 1977

In 1973 Dr. Elinor Schoenfeld entered Stony Brook University as a freshman and one of the recommendations to bring with her, among the necessities for college, included mud boots.                        

 


 

 

Leonard Spivak B.A. 1964

Leonard Spivak graduated from Stony Brook in 1964, earning a B.A. with honors in political science. He was President of the Student Polity during the 1963-64 school year and also served on the Editorial Staff
of the Statesman. After graduating from Stony Brook, he attended Columbia Law School, earning his legal degree, cum laude, in 1967.

 


Steve Levy B.S. 1981

Steve Levy was elected Suffolk County Executive in November 2003 and took office on January 1, 2004. Prior to reaching Suffolk's highest elected office, he served as a New York State Assemblyman and represented the 5th Assembly district, which includes part of central Suffolk County.

 


William Knapp B.A. 1978 & Jane Knapp B.A. 1978

Jane and Bill have known each other since growing up in neighboring towns of Blue Point and Bayport. Their mutual interest in helping others began while taking a hiatus from college. Bill worked for the Catholic Relief Services installing drinking water in villages in Madagascar, while Jane helped fundraise for Big Brothers and Sisters in Manhattan. In 1974 the couple married and in 1978 the two graduated from Stony Brook University: Jane with a Bachelor's in Art History and Bill with a Bachelor's in Economics.


 

      Vivian Viloria-Fisher M.A.L.S. 1973

Vivian Viloria-Fisher is the first Dominican-born woman elected to legislative office in the United States. She won the seat with the widest margin ever in a special election on January 19, 1999. Currently, Mrs. Viloria-Fisher serves as the Vice Chair of the Suffolk County Legislature's Ad Hoc Committee on Affordable Housing.


John Lizzul B.A. 1975

John grew up in Queens and attended Mater Christi High School in Astoria, now known as St. John?s Prepatory School. He knew that Stony Brook would be his first choice as a college when he visited the campus in 1971. "You could feel the excitement and sense of mission on the campus. The vast amount of construction just contributed to the idea that Stony Brook was secure and confident in its ability to train young men and women for future success."
