Lisa (Boselli) Loscalzo (1985) writes, "Lisa Loscalzo, president of The Little Clinic, was among ten female small business entrepreneurs selected to join the annual Fortune Most Powerful Women Summit, as a winner of Fortune’s 10 most powerful women in small business initiative which was held Sept. 14-16 in Aviara, Calif.

Loscalzo joined 400 of the country’s most prominent women leaders in business, philanthropy, government, education and the arts for the series of panel discussions, on-stage interviews and interactive sessions. Loscalzo was also selected to serve in a panel discussion on women in small business along with Karen Mills, chairman of the U.S. Small Business Administration and Susan Sobbott, president of American Express OPEN. Warren Buffet introduced the panel.

The small business leaders were added to the conference this year as part of a new program targeting entrepreneurial women who are game changers, ground-breakers and innovators in their fields.

Loscalzo is president of The Little Clinic, a leader in the convenient care industry. She co-founded the company in 2003 and has overseen significant growth over the past two years. She has over 20 years of experience in the health care industry in both long term and acute care practice management and ancillary services.

Alan Wax (1971)
Alan Wax (1971) writes, that he is the president of the Melville-based public relations firm WaxWords Incorporated, and recently was honored by Long Island Business news with its inaugural Fifty Around 50 Awards.

The award recognizes leadership in business, mentoring and support for the Island’s not-for-profit organizations and a commitment to the community.

The award was presented by the regional business publication on Sept. 24 at a gala dinner at the Garden City Hotel celebrating the companies and business leaders who are over 40 and proud of it. Wax was a prize-winning reporter, columnist and editor at Newsday for 24 years prior to establishing WaxWords in 2005.

As a public relations practitioner, Wax has represented leading businesses and organizations in the real estate industry on Long Island as well as other providers of professional services. In addition to his work in public relations, Wax writes a wine column for Long Island magazine and is an adjunct assistant professor of journalism at Five Towns College in Dix Hills. He also is the author of the Long Island Wine Country Touring Guide, published by the Long Island Wine Council and Island Metro Publications. His writing also has appeared in Building Long Island, the Wine Spectator, Wine & Vines, Beverage Dynamics, Beer the Magazine and Beer Connoisseur magazine.

Wax was a member of the Newsday team that won the 1997 Pulitzer Prize for Spot News Reporting. He is also the recipient of numerous other journalism awards.

Wax serves on the board of directors of the Long Island Real Estate Group, a networking and philanthropic organization, and is a former executive vice president of Public Relations Professionals of Long Island. He is a past president and board member of The New York Financial Writers Association. In addition, he is a member of the Press Club of Long Island, the National Association of Real Estate Editors and the Business International Network. He is also a member of the Advisory Board of Building Long Island magazine.

Wax received a Masters of Arts in Journalism from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 1973 and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Stony Brook University in 1971.

Wax resides in Dix Hills, NY, with his wife, Jeanne Behrman '70, and three of their adult children.

Stephen Cipot (1979)
Stephen J. Cipot is a geologist and project manager with the U. S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Region 2 office in NYC. He recently developed an upper level student internship program between his office and his SB alma mater Geology (B.S. 1981), as well as SB's SOMAS program. Stephen believes internships can offer an exceptional opportunity for students to apply college learning with a practical work experience in an applied quantitative sense, and he encourages others to consider creating similar opportunities. Internships are actually not difficult to establish and are set up directly with a college program because they will have 488 and similar level seminars that already allow for internships. Specific internship requirements, details, and number of credits a student will receive are worked out in advance between a college program and the prospective internship employer. Besides receiving college credits other incentives can also be offered, for example, Stephen’s office provides reimbursement to help cover an intern’s commuting expenses to NYC.

Miserandino, editor of the longest-running entertainment magazine on the Internet, was chosen based upon his outstanding contribution to journalism, PCLI and the community.

Laura Barrett (1997)
Laura Barrett (1997) writes, "(Savannah, GA, July 21, 2009) Armstrong Atlantic State University (AASU) has named Laura Barrett dean of the College of Liberal Arts. Barrett has been chair of Fine Arts, Humanities and Selected Social Sciences in the Harriet L. Wilkes Honors College at Florida Atlantic University (FAU) in Jupiter for the past four years. She has served on the FAU faculty since 1998 as a charter member of the Wilkes Honors College faculty.

“Dr. Barrett has established an excellent record as a teacher and a scholar,” said Ellen V. Whitford, AASU vice president of academic affairs and dean of faculty. “Her experience and dedication will serve her well as she takes on the leadership of the College of Liberal Arts.”

AASU’s College of Liberal Arts houses the departments of Art, Music & Theater; Criminal Justice, Social & Political Science; Economics; Gender & Women’s Studies; History; Language, Literature & Philosophy; Law and Society; Liberal Studies; and Military Science.

Barrett holds a Ph.D. in nineteenth and twentieth century American literature with emphasis in American romance, postmodernism, literature and photography from the State University of New York at Stony Brook. While at Stony Brook she was also a postdoctoral fellow. She earned her master’s in English literature from Columbia University in New York City. She received her bachelor’s degree in English summa cum laude from Long Island University (LIU), Brooklyn Campus.

Before moving to FAU, she served five years as assistant/associate director of the university Honors Program on the LIU Brooklyn Campus where she had also been an adjunct professor.

Barrett has written numerous articles and delivered many conference presentations and lectures on works of literature ranging from "Moby Dick" and "Ragtime" to "The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" and "The Great Gatsby."

Charles Kraut (1971) writes, "Charles Kraut (1971) writes, "I just published the first of several books. This one is entitled "Moneywise: Your Guide to Keeping Ahead of Inflation, Taxes, and the Declining Dollar".
It will soon be followed by my second book, "What Will You Do When the Money's No Good?"
This is my attempt to help educate middle-class Americans about their personal finances, and help them stay in the rapidly-shrinking middle class."
