My son, Michael J. Gutheinz, who graduated with honors in 2006 and then served as a staffer for congresswoman Shelley Sekula Gibbs, completed a tour of duty with the JAG Corp in Afghanistan on May 21st, 2009.

Amy (Bates) Ames (1999) recently started her own law firm, Ames Law Firm, PLLC, located in Tyler, TX as Attorney. Amy had been previously employed at Jason R. Searcy & Associates, PC in Longview, Texas, where she had practiced since graduation from law school.

Amy (Bates) Ames (1999) and Doug Ames (1999) are proud to announce the birth of a baby boy, Andrew Douglas. He was born on February 11, in Tyler, Texas, and weighed 8 lb., 9 oz. Doug and Amy Ames have another son Cameron who is now 3 1/2 years old.

Lesli (Gordon) Barber (2000)
Lesli (Gordon) Barber (2000) and Jimmy Fitzpatrick are happy to announce their engagement. The wedding ceremony will take place on October 3, 2009, in Austin, Texas. After being divorced for nearly nineteen years, Lesli received an offer of marriage on the first day of Spring 2009 which she gladly accepted. Her son Barry (who is now 21) will be giving her away. The happy couple plan to be married at the Daniel Caswell House, a Texas and National Historical Landmark, located in downtown Austin, Texas. They are excited about their future together and wanted to share their good news with everyone associated with STCL.

Joseph Zopolsky (2001)
Joseph D. Zopolsky (2001), a partner with the law firm Sandbote, Waggoner & Zopolsky, P.C. in Dallas, Texas was awarded a Masters degree in Business Administration from Texas Tech University in August 2008. Over the past three years, Joe flew to Lubbock, Texas on weekends to attend classes in a program designed to accommodate attorneys and other professionals working full time.

Lauri Andress (1997)
Lauri Andress (1997) received a doctorate in Community Health Science with a concentration in health policy from the University of Texas School of Public Health. Dr. Andress is now serving as director of the first Center for Health Equity at the local level in the U.S. She will be teaching at the University of Louisville School of Public Health.

Sheryl (Cook) O'Briant (1989)
My husband, Pat O'Briant, was a 1989 graduate. Pat passed away on January 19, 2009 as the result of a car accident. He was a member of the South Texas Law Review and the National Mock Trial Teams in 1988 and 1989, under Dean Treece and former Professor Peter Murphy. He went on to practice at several prominent Houston law firms in the area of insurance defense, medical malpractice, and bad faith litigation. At the time of his passing, he had been with Thamm & O'Briant, LLP for 6 years. He was also a long standing member and performer with the Houston Bar Association's Night Court. In addition to myself, he is survived by our precious 16 year old daughter, Kelsey Erin O'Briant.
