spotlight on Michele Whitney '97

Filmrounds.com While sitting in Ben Singer’s Introduction to Film class in Seelye Hall, Michele never thought the day would come when she would NOT find time to watch films. Years later, that’s exactly what happened. Work, friends, family - there was always a good reason to not make it to the theater.

Being a good Smithie, however, Michele decided to do something about it. She founded a Tuesday night film discussion group at Criterion Cinemas, the new art house theater in downtown New Haven.

Since their first showing earlier this year, Michele has hosted more than 30 discussions and events, including q&a’s with leading filmmakers and novelists. She is also working with Criterion to host a modern classics film series, and a Saturday morning Film 101 class.
