about us

mission statement
The Smith College Club of Greater New Haven shall foster a spirit of friendship among former and current students of Smith College, provide financial assistance to students from New Haven County in obtaining an education at Smith College, and promote and encourage communications between Smith College and New Haven County alumnae.

greetings from our president...

This year we are fortunate to have two new board members and three returning board members. Megan Ambrus '07 and Heather Bryant '00 are our new board members. Megan will be our vice president. She also serves on the Smith College Board of Trustees and I am excited to have her on our board. She has already provided us with great insight to the College's strategic plan which emphasizes recruiting new students, and encouraging applications and acceptances. For FY2009, the Club will align its events with some of the College's srategic plan such that we will organize events to reach out to potential and current students.

Heather Bryant will be our secretary & recent grads coordinator. The Club functions best when new and enthusiastic volunteers get involved and I am excited to have Heather's contributions to the board. I also welcome your contributions and involvement. Please contact me directly at president@smithclubgnh.org with your ideas.

And, last but not least, please join me in becoming a member and sending in your dues! These support our communications with you, our outreach to prospective students, and the events that link us together.

Sincerely,
Josefa Abdelnour '97

There are more of us in New Haven County than you might think! Over 140 alumnae who have graduated since 1990 are currently living in New Haven County and about 50 of them live in New Haven.
We are an eclectic bunch with an impressive range of interests. We also have plenty in common and much to gain from networking and getting to know one another. If you would like to tap into this growing community of recent grads and to volunteer your time to organize or attend a recent grads event, please contact Heather Bryant '00 or sign up on the Membership page.

The Board voted to officially change our name to the Smith College Club of Greater New Haven. Our purpose? We want to emphasize that the club covers all of New Haven County. This includes those alumnae who live in Ansonia, Beacon Falls, Bethany, Branford, Cheshire, Derby, East Haven, Guilford, Hamden, Madison, Meriden, Middlebury, Milford, Naugatuck, New Haven, North Branford, North Haven, Orange, Oxford, Prospect, Seymour, Southbury, Wallingford, Waterbury, West Haven, Wolcott, and Woodbridge. (Whew!)
There are so many towns in New Haven County that the Board is seeking Area Events Coordinators to organize activities such as luncheons or happy hours in such areas as:

  • Lower Naugatuck Valley - Shelton, Ansonia, Derby, Seymour…
  • East Shore - Madison, Guilford, Branford…
  • Northeast - Wallingford, Meriden, Cheshire…
  • New Haven - New Haven, Milford, West Haven, East Haven…
If you would like to serve as an Area Events Coordinator, contact Josefa Abdelnour.

There’s something special about Smithies.

We’re intelligent, fun, and feisty.

And when we get together, we have
a lot to talk about. Did you know there are nearly 500 of us in
Greater New Haven?

Wouldn’t you like to meet us?
