Christopher Stone (2002) has entered his 2nd year as a full time doctoral student and Graduate Assistant with the Graduate School of Education and Human Development, at The George Washington University, in Washington, DC. Chris anticipates receiving his Ed D in Higher Education Administration in 2013. Along with his GW duties, Chris secured a year-long internship position with the American College Personnel Association (ACPA), in the area of Educational Programs and Publications, located in Washington, DC.

Charles Walzem (1976)
Charles C. Walzem, 57, of Rock Island, died Tuesday, Nov. 18, 2008, at Richmond Hospital, Richmond, British Columbia, after becoming ill while returning from China. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Rock Island. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery, Rock Island. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Monday at Wheelan-Pressly Funeral Home, 3030 7th Ave., Rock Island, where a Christian wake service will be at 5 p.m. Memorials may be made to the St. Vincent de Paul Society Food Pantry at St. Pius. Charles was born Oct. 26, 1951, in Davenport, a son of William ôBuzzö and Barbara Torrance Walzem. He graduated from Alleman High School in Rock Island with honors through his love of art. Charles received a bachelorÆs degree in fine arts from St. Ambrose College and later a masterÆs degree from Siena Heights College, Adrian, Mich. He returned to St. Ambrose and completed the requirements for a teaching certificate. Charles taught high school in Minnesota for several years and also taught English in the Asian countries of South Korea, Taiwan, Vietnam and China. Between teaching assignments, he worked at the Catholic Worker House in Davenport, served the poor in Appalachia and from college days was a professional waiter working at fine restaurants across the country, including RexieÆs Gourmet House in Rock Island. Charles always tried to be home for family weddings, Christmas and his parentÆs anniversaries. He dearly loved his siblings, nieces, nephews and his parents. Survivors include his parents, Buzz and Barbara, Rock Island; sisters and brothers (and spouses), Janis Walzem and her two daughters and son, Boise, Idaho, Lisa Woo (Ron) and their two sons, Williamsburg, VA, Torrance Walzem (Sue Ann) and their three daughters, Louisville, Ky., Joseph Walzem (Bobbi), Baltimore, Md, Barbara Shea (Tim) and their daughter, Corvallis, Ore., Vincent Walzem (Linda), Salt Lake City, Utah, Bill Walzem and his son, Lake Wales, Fla., and Allen Walzem (Yunwei) and two daughters, Tainan, Taiwan.

Carol L. Stratton, 49, of Bettendorf died Monday, June 30, 2008, in Davenport, Iowa. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Edwards Congregational United Church of Christ in Davenport. A graduate of the University of Northern Iowa, she then earned her master's degree in education from St. Ambrose University. She pursued her career in education, most recently as an academic counselor at the University of Iowa. Survivors include her husband, Lyle; a son, Nolan C. Stratton of Coralville, Iowa; her sister, Rhonda Nolan of Fort Collins, Colo.; a brother, Carl (Anne) Nolan of Park View, Iowa; her twin sisters, Cheryl Nolan of Des Moines; and a brother, Daniel (Nicole) Nolan of Clive, Iowa.
