Sunday, August 9, 2015, the PSLI Chapter hosted its annual Penn State Freshmen Sendoff Picnic. Over 100 freshmen students, parents and Chapter alums attended the picnic at
Elwood Park in Huntington on a beautiful, sunny day. A special thanks
to Chapter President Stephen Damadeo, Treasurer, Ned Price, Communications Secretary Peter Fushan, Vice President Samantha Condolff and Recording Secretary Marcy Demsky for
hosting the event. Also thanks to the entire Taylor family who helped
with sign-in, set-up and awarding
prizes (their son Matt is a PSU freshman). Folks enjoyed food, beverages and the good company among a growing Penn State family, while
several upperclassmen participated in a Q&A with the
freshmen and also a special guest speaker, Steve Mitchell, our Admissions Regional Recruiter. And, we collected over $70 for our Endowed Chapter Scholarship Fund through a 50/50 raffle. Congratulations to all the freshmen and parents selecting
Saturday, May 9, 2015, 9:30 a.m., Penn State Alums Tour the Intrepid Sea, Air & Space Museum in Manhattan. PSLI
Chapter members attended this fun-filled educational tour of one of the great WWII air craft carriers operating in the Pacific Ocean. Prior to the museum tour, PSU alums and guests were treated to a breakfast, welcome message from Deborah Marron, Dir. of Program Devel. and Enrichment and then a presentation by Dr. Charles Kupfer, Assoc. Prof. of American Studies and History at Harrisburg (Middletown) campus (see photos below).
Saturday, March 21, 2015, 2:30 p.m., Penn State Men's Lacrosse vs. #5 Denver at Hofstra in Hempstead. PSLI
Chapter members attended this action-packed game where the Nittany Lions fought hard through four quarters before falling to Denver, 10-8. Chapter members also met up with the Parents Lacrosse Group before the game.

Saturday, Dec. 27, at 4:30 p.m., The Penn State Nittany Lions Nudge Past The Boston College Eagles 31 to 30 in Overtime in The Pinstripe Bowl at Yankee Stadium. PSLI
Chapter members, friends and family gathered at The Main Event in Plainview, NY for this football TV watching party in a squeaker in a penalty-filled game with a thrilling ending. Penn State Captain Sam Ficken sent the game into OT with a 45-yard field goal with 20 seconds left in regulation and then won it with his extra point after the OT touchdown. We raised a TV Watching Party record $115 for our Chapter endowed scholarship fund.
Saturday, Nov. 29, at 8 p.m., The Penn State Nittany Lions Versus Cornell in a Frozen Apple hockey matchup at Madison Square Garden. PSLI
Chapter members, friends and family gathered at a pregame dinner at Stout and then walked to MSG to watch the Nittany Lions lead for two periods before the Cornell University Big Red began to dominate, leading to a 3-1 victory. Despite the loss, this was the Penn State Nittany Hockey team's first trip to MSG and hopefully more will follow.
Saturday, October 11, 2014, Penn State Nittany Lions Lose to the Michigan Wolverines, 18-13 Over 20 PSLI
Chapter members, friends and family gathered at our new venue, The Main Event in Farmingdale, for our first football TV watching party of the 2014 season. Despite the loss, the food, beverage, prizes and good company pleased everyone. We collected $53 for the Chapter's endowed scholarship fund. Chapter member Jonathan Taylor (third from right, holding plaque) was at the game and participated in the first quarter intermission where the NFF inducted Penn State Team Captain Shane Conlan into the College Football Hall of Fame.
Saturday Night, Sept. 13, 2014, PSU Football vs. Rutgers: It did not matter that the Nittany Lions had played nearly four quarters without visiting the end zone or that the largest crowd (53,000+) in Highpoint Solutions Stadium history was on its feet roaring, with just two minutes remaining on the clock, the Nittany Lions offense marched 80 yards in 1:49 to knock off Rutgers, 13-10, in its first Big Ten game of the season. Christian Hackenberg dropped a ball in between the corner and safety along the Penn State sideline for a 23-yard connection with Lewis and then Belton scampered into the end zone for a 5-yard touchdown to seal the victory. Plenty of Long Island Chapter members, friends and family were on hand to tailgate and watch the game.

Sunday, June 22, 2014, Penn Staters, friends and family attended the Long Island Ducks, at Bethpage Ballpark. This year's Penn State Long Island Ducks event was another summer Sunday success! Our group of 35 consisted of Penn Staters, children, grandparents and friends and everyone enjoyed their seats in the shade and especially the Ducks victory over the Sugar Land Skeeters. Each $10 ticket included a raffle ticket for various Penn State and Ducks items. And of course, after the game, kids ran the bases. A special thanks goes to our Chapter Vice President, Samantha Condolff, for hosting this event.
May 27, 2014, The PSU NY Metro Group Dined at Ted’s Montana Grill in Manhattan PSU Alumni Association regional directors hosted a dinner with senior officers of the LI Chapter, NYC Chapter, CNJ Chapter, and PSU Black African American group attended.
May 22, 2014, The PSU Coaches Caravan came to Manhattan at the Marriott New York Downtown PSLI Chapter members attended this event with over 300 other PSU alums and friends. The main speaker was football head coach James Franklin. Also appearing were wrestling coach, Casey Cunningham, women's soccer coach, Erica Walsh, Athletic Director, David Joyner and Alumni Executive Director, Roger Williams.
Monday, May 19, 2014, Costume designer and Distinguished Alumni Award recipient, Carrie Robbins '64, presented “BEHIND THE SEAMS ON BROADWAY.” The PSLI Chapter was in attendance to hear Tony nominee and Drama Desk Award winner discuss her Penn State, Yale and 40 years of Broadway experience in costume design.
Friday, November 29, 2013, Penn
State Men’s Basketball Defeats St. John’s 89-82 in the Barclay’s Center Classic. PSLI Chapter alums, friends and family dined at the pregame party and then cheered the Penn State Nittany Lions Basketball team at Brooklyn’s Barclay Center. The Nittany Lions led the Red Storm through most of the game, until the Red Storm rallied to tie late in the second half. But Penn State prevailed in overtime. Lot's of fun, excitement and good company for all, hosted by Chapter President, Peter Fushan.

Saturday, October 12, 2013, Penn State Nittany Lions Defeat the Michigan Wolverines, 43-40, in four overtimes! PSLI Chapter members, friends and family attended a Football TV Watching Party at The Main Event hosted by Chapter President, Peter Fushan. Most thought the game was over with one minute left and Michigan ahead, but the Lions came roaring back with a clutch touchdown with almost nothing left on the clock. The rest is history. We collected $40 for the Chapter Endowed Scholarship Fund.
Saturday, October 5, 2013, The PSLI Chapter Attends the LI Puppet Theatre Production of The Wizard of Oz in Hicksville. PSLI Chapter members, friends and kids and family enjoyed a morning performance hosted by Chapter Board member Lauri Christiansen Wegener, followed by pizza, beverages and cupcakes baked by our Chapter V.P. Samantha Condolff. Thanks to you both for a fun-filled event.
Saturday, August 31, 2013, Penn State Defeats Syracuse 23-17 at the MetLife Stadium in NJ. Two busloads of LI Chapter members, family and friends turned out to watch the Nittany Lions, as well as enjoy a sumptuous tailgate party. And, we collected a record $360 for the Chapter Scholarship Fund while awarding prizes in a drawing among atendees. A special thanks goes to our Chapter Treasurer, Ned Price, for hosting the event.

Sunday, June 9, 2013, the LI Ducks Game and Picnic. Over 40 Penn State alums, family and friends attended the game on a gorgeous weather day and had a sumptuous picnic on the very cool Smokin' Al's Party Deck with two levels of picnic table seating (half in shade) and right on the third base line. Our group got at least THREE foul balls! Kids ran the bases after the game. We also raised $25 for our Chapter's endowed scholarship fund. A special thanks goes to Chapter VP, Samantha Condolff and Secretary Steve Damadeo for hosting the event as well as Debbie Crehan and Lauri Christiansen from our Chapter Board.
Saturday, April 27, 2013, PSLI Chapter members watched the Nittany Lions men’s lacrosse team clobber Hofstra 16-7 to earn their first undefeated CAA regular season (and the team's first 50-pt. season since 2002). Mark Ahern of the Parent’s Lacrosse Association (center photo) hosted the pre-game tailgate party serving up a delectable BBQ. The PSLI cheering squad was on hand for the game (far right photo).
Saturday afternoon, November 24, Penn State defeats Wisconsin in final game of the year. LI Chapter members and friends gathered at The Main Event in Plainview, NY to watch the Nittany Lions on Senior Day beat the Wisconsin Ohio Badgers in a stunning 24-21 overtime win at Beaver Stadium. And, we collected $93 in a silent auction for The Chapter Scholarship Fund and Hurricane Sandy LI Relief Effort.
Saturday afternoon, October 27, Penn State loses to OSU. LI Chapter members and friends gathered at The Main Event in Plainview, NY to watch Ohio State drop a buckeye on the Nittany Lions in a 35-23 loss at Beaver Stadium. Still, we collected $65 in a silent auction for the Chapter Scholarship Fund.
Saturday night, October 20, Penn State defeats Iowa in Iowa. LI Chapter members and friends watched the Nittany Lions pluck the feathers of the Iowa Hawkeyes in 38-14 win at our favorite TV Watching venue -- The Main Event in Plainview, NY.
Saturday, October 6, 2012, World Premiere of MURPH The Proctector Documentary. The LI Chapter was in attendance at this screening at Hunter College Danny Kaye Theatre to honor Navy Seal and PSU Grad Michael Murphy, who died in service in Afghanistan. Also, USS Destroyer Michael Murphy commissioned in NY Harbor the same day.
Sunday, September 23, 2012, The Priscilla Oyster Sloop Cruise launched from West Sayville. The 2-hour cruise was sold out early with just 13 spots. A special thanks to Jerry Dano and Samantha Condolff for hosting this event where folks enjoyed the cruise and company.
Sunday, August 5, 2012, The PSLI Chapter's Freshmen Send-off Picnic in Huntington. In one of the largest attended events of the year, 118 parents and Penn State freshman enjoyed sandwiches, salads and refreshments under the Elwood Park pavilion in Huntington. Prizes were awarded to freshmen as well as part of our 50/50 Scholarship drawing. This event could not have happened without the coordination of our Chapter Treasurer, Ned Price, and the help of Chapter members, Samantha Condolff, Peter Fushan, Stephen Damadeo, Jerry Dano, Marcy Demsky, Merry Wieta, Megan Tomlin, Heather Taylor, Anthony Flammia and Lou De Risi. A special thanks to Stephen and Megan who took time to answer a lot of questions about PSU from parents and students in a Q&A.
Thursday, July 26, 2012, Happy Hours at Gemelli's Restaurant in Babylon. Penn State Long Island Chapter alums gathered at this famous restaurant in downtown Babylon to celebrate the summer with a happy hour and delicious appetizers hosted by Chapter Vice President, Samantha Condolff and Megan Tomlin.
Sunday, April 1, 2012, NY Islanders Hockey at the Nassau Veterans Memorial Coliseum. The Penn State Long Island Chapter and the Ohio State Alumni Club of Greater New York watched the Islanders take on the Ottawa Senators. An enthusiastic crowd supported the Islanders during Fan Appreciation Day, despite the Islanders falling to the Senators, 5-1. Special thanks to our own Debbie Crehan and Jon Postyn of the OSU Alumni Club for co-chairing this fun event.
Wednesday, Mar. 28, 2012, Big Ten Social Mixer/Networking Event. The Penn State LI Chapter held its first Social Mixer of 2012 at the B56 Fighter Group, in Republic Airport, in Farmingdale. There was good food, drink and company for all. A special thanks to event co-chairs Lauri Christiansen Wegener and Steve Damadeo, as well as Samantha Condolff.
Friday, Jan. 13, 2012, PSU President Rodney Erickson at Manhattan Town Hall Meeting The Penn State LI Chapter was in attendance with 300+ people at this important Town Hall Meeting to meet the new President of Penn State University. After brief opening remarks, the President fielded questions from the audience and write-ins. The meeting was also streamed live on the Internet.
Monday, Jan. 2, 2012, TicketCity Bowl Football TV Watching Party About 30 Penn State LI Chapter members, alums, family and friends gathered at The Main Event to watch the Nittany Lions play the University of Houston Cougars. While the Lions defense did everything it could to contain Houston, the Lions offense never quite got off the ground in the 30-14 loss to the Cougars in what might be coach Bradley's last game for PSU. We also collected $100 for the LI Chapter Endowed Scholarship Fund!
Tues., Nov. 1, Penn State Men's Soccer vs. Hoffstra LI Chapter members joined other PSU alums and friends to watch the Nittany Lions fight to a 1-1 tie in overtime. Featured in the photo below is #21, Machenzie Arment, who scored the Penn State goal.
Sat., Sept. 10, Penn State vs. Northwestern LI alums and friends gathered at The Main Event in Plainview to watch the Nittany Lions defeat the Wildcats 34-24 in a tale of two halves (all offense the first half and all defense the second half). We even had some Penn State alums visiting from North Carolina.
Fri., Sept. 30, PSU's Ploog at The Met Members of the NYC and LI Chapters attended a lecture at the Metropolitan Museum of Art by PSU College of Arts and Architecture Prof. Randy J. Ploog. The lecture entitled "Pablo Picasso and Manierre Dawson: Separate Paths to Similar Destinations" proved to be an interesting examination of Dawson's work and a near CSI-type review of how Dawson developed his own path to Cubism and other forms of abstract art. Prof. Ploog is seen below at the far right of the photos.
Sat., Sept. 10, Penn State vs. Alabama More than a dozen alums gathered at The Main Event in Plainview, NY to watch the Nittany Lions fight the Tide, but come up short in a 27-11 final score.Still, it was the first test of the Lions against a possible favorite for this year’s national title, with plenty more football left in the season.Good food and company for sure.Sorry, no pics this time.
Sat., April 30, Penn State Men's Lacrosse at Hofstra Despite a 9-4 loss to Hofstra, Chapter members and Penn State friends and fans partied at an outstanding LI Chapter tailgate event prior to the game. A special thanks toSara Weber(pictured below in the far right upper corner with co-chair Maury Hendler) for arranging the catered food and charity sponsors' prizes as attendees supported both the LI Chapter Endowed Scholarship Fund and the Crohn’s & Colitis Foundation in CCFA/TEAM CHALLENGE.
Thurs., March 17, PSU Board of Trustees Meeting in Manhattan. LI Chapter Board members attended a special event in NYC at Alice Tully Hull in Lincoln Center, sponsored by the PSU Board of Trustees who hosted the Penn State Musical Theatre Alumni Troupe and special guest appearance of Tony Bennett. President Graham Spanier announced that through his daughter's efforts, a formal agreement had been reached to link the Tony Bennett School of Music in Manhattan with the Penn State School of Arts and Architecture.
Sat., February 12, 2p.m., The Penn State Essense of Joy Alumni Choir performed at the Holy Name School in Manhattan. The L.I. Chapter was in attendance. We heard a mix of gospel and secular music sung by current performing choir alumni as well as past alumni present in the NY area.
Sat., Jan. 1, 2011--Outback Bowl from Tampa Florida: The game was much closer than the final 37-24 score would indicate as the Florida Gators rallied late in the fourth quarter to overtake the Penn State Nittany Lions.Depite the outcome, Long Island Chapter members and other Penn Staters present enjoyed the good food and company.
Saturday, Dec. 18: Penn State Women's Volleyball Team Wins an Unprecedented 4th Consecutive NCAA Div. 1 National Championship. They did so with a 3-0 (25-20, 27-25, 25-20) sweep of California. This also is coach Russ Rose's fifth WVB Championship -- the most national championships ever for a Division I volleyball head coach.
Saturday, Sept 11: Chapter members watch the Penn State Nittany Lions fall to No. 1 Alabama Crimson Tide. It wasn't all that much of a contest from the start in the 24-3 loss with the Lion's only points coming in the last ten minutes of the game. Nonetheless, all enjoyed the food and company.
Wednesday, May 19: Chapter members attended Happy Hour at The Main Event, hosted by Justin Scheckner. Eight people participated in Chapter Appreciation Night where we provided free appetizers.
Saturday, May 8, 2010, Fiddler on the Roof:Chapter members attended this award winning play at the John W. Engeman Theater in Northport, NY. This splendid evening of entertainment included a sumptuous meal at Your Ship's Come In restaurant just down the street from the theatre (featuring its award winning chowder soup) A special thanks to Samantha Condolff and Jerry Dano for co-chairing this great event.
Wed., April 21: NY Metro Group Happy Hour -- members of the Long Island Chapter attended the first social function of the NY Metro Group along with Nat'l PSU Alumni Assoc. representativies and board members from the NJ, CT and NYC PSU Chapters. Future events were discussed as well as some agenda items for the next meetings. More news will follow as the season progresses.
Sat., March 27: “City Lights” National Museum of The American Indian -- Chapter members attended a lecture by John Tippeconnic, Penn State Professor of Education and Director of the American Leadership Program, followed by a tour of the museum. PennState is celebrating the 40th anniversary of the College of Education’s American Indian Leadership Program. The event was sponsored by the Alumni Assoc. and the Central NJ Chapter.
Wed., March 24: President's Concert Featuring the Penn State Philharmonic at Carnegie Hall and Pre-Concert Reception -- Chapter members attended a great reception and concert at an historic venue.
Wednesday, March 10th, Penn State Long Island Chapter Happy Hour.Penn State Chapter alums and friends hung out atThe Main Event in Plainview, enjoying a broad selection of food and drinks, including choice steaks, the freshest seafood and a wide variety of top-shelf liquor and world famous beer.
Fri., Dec. 4, Holiday Party Dinner – Chapter members gathered at Meehan's in Huntington, for a sumptuous dinner to celebrate the holiday. A good time had by all and a special thanks to Samantha Condolff who chaired the event.
Sat., Nov. 7, The LI Chapter watches the Nittany Lions fall to the Ohio State Buckeyes, 24-7 -- we yelled, we pleaded, we cried (and wouldn't you know, Iowa loses to Northwestern 17-10). Still, good food and friends at The Main Event (sorry, no pics this time).
Sat., Oct. 24, The LI Chapter watches the Nittany Lions thrash the Michigan Wolverines, 35-10 -- this time we watched the game on the big screen at Dave & Busters, ate our fill and the kids in attendance played in the huge arcade room adjacent to the viewing area. A special thanks goes to our Chapter Treasurer, Samantha Condolff, for hosting the party.
Sat., Sept. 26, The LI Chapter watches the Nittany Lions fall to Iowa in their Big Ten Opener -- 20 Chapter members watched the game at The Main Event in Plainview, NY, ate sumptuous food, vied for a chance to win prizes, cheered on the Lions and screamed at the offensive line as it surrendered to the Hawkeyes in a 21-10 rout.
Sun., Sept. 20, The LI Chapter attends the LI Ducks Baseball Team 12-10 win over the Camden, NJ Riversharks -- 50 tickets were bought for this game on a gorgeous afternoon. Sat., Sept. 5, Curt Warner Honored During Halftime at Penn State vs. Akron Football Game -- Former Penn State Running Back Curt Warner was honored for his recent induction to the College Football Hall of Fame. Curt appears in the middle of the photo below standing next to his wife and daughter. Presenting the award to Curt is Long Island Chapter member Jonathan Taylor (on the far left), who is the CPA for the College Football Hall of Fame.
Sat., June 20, Penn State Speaker: Dr. Meena Bose – Chapter members gathered at the Village Club of Sands Point (formerly home of Solomon Guggenheim) for cocktails, a sumptuous dinner and to hear Dr. Meena Bose discuss the first 150 days of Barack Obama’s presidency compared to past presidencies. A Q&A session followed touching on worldwide topics. A great evening for all and a special thanks to Maury Hendler who organized the event, assisted by Cathy Damante.
Thurs., April 30, Coach Joe Paterno was honored at The Plaza in Manhattan, hosted by the New York City Chapter of the Nittany Lion Club and the Penn State Alumni Association. L.I. Chapter members were in attendance. Also appearing as a guest speaker, Lara Von Seelen Spencer ’91 – Anchor of "The Insider," television's half-hour newsmagazine reporting on the world of celebrities.
Thurs., April 2, 2009 NIT Championship at Madison Square Garden: The Penn State Nittany Lions (27-11) posted a 69-63 victory over Baylor (24-15), its second post-season tournament title in program history and first since the 1991 A-10 tournament crown.Penn State brought in 36 bus loads of students as the PSU crowd outnumbered the Baylor following by 7 to 1 (see photos below of our attending Chapter members, floor performance and the big win).
Tues., March 31, 2009 NIT Semifinals at Madison Square Garden: Penn State led the Fighting Irish throughout the game and held off a late Notre Dame rally defeating the Fighting Irish, 67-59, reaching the final of the National Invitation Tournament (against Baylor) for only the second time in school history.LI Chapter members met before the game for a sumptuous meal at Stout (see photos below).

March 20-22, 2009: Penn State Takes First in Team Standings and Crowns Four National Fencing Champions -- Anastasia Ferdman (Maalot, Israel) became National Champion for epee and Doris Willette (Lafayette, Calif.) was named National Champion for foil. Thursday, Jan. 1, 2009, Penn State falls short as the USC Trojans capture The Rose Bowl, 38-24 -- The Nittany Lions had season-highs with nine penalties for 72 yards, 62 in the first half, negating a turnover and a 45-yard completion in USC territory early in the game. Penn State also had three turnovers after committing only 13 during the regular season. USC became the first school to win three consecutive Rose Bowls. Penn State finished 11-2, earning at least 11 wins for the 14th time under Coach Joe Paterno. The career victories leader among major college coaches with 383, Paterno also is the all-time leader in bowl appearances (35) and victories (23-11-1 record). Penn State alumns filled several tables at the Main Event in Plainview, NY (see photo below).
Sat. evening, Jan. 17, the Penn State Ice Lion's hockey team (Div. II) defeated C.W. Post (7-3)-- at the Andrew Stergiopoulos Ice Rink at Parkwood Sports Complex in Great Neck. It was the only Penn State athletic event scheduled in the New York area this year and hosted by Maury Hendler on a very chilly night.
