Earlier this year I bought a great townhouse in a wonderful neighborhood in DC and am enjoying fixing it up tremendously. My grandchildren visit often. My five-year-old granddaughter goes to a Chinese immersion school, the only one of its kind in the District.

Michael J. Fusco (New York, 1975 )
Michael J. Fusco (New York, 1975, 1993, 1997) recently retired from MTA after 32 years and is now self-employed as a freelance nature photographer. He resides in Forest Hills, New York . Michael was employed at MTA as a PC Trainer and retired after 32 years at age 55 to pursue photography full-time.

Susan (Gallagher) Gallagher Serven (Pleasantville/Briarcliff, 1986 )
Susan (Gallagher) Gallagher Serven (Pleasantville/Briarcliff, 1986) writes, "Susan Serven, president of the Chinese Language School of Connecticut, (www.ChineseLanguageSchool.org) is pleased to announce that the organization has now been accredited by CITA (Commission on International and Trans-Regional Accreditation, May 2008) and the MSA (Middle States Association, January 2009) and has been named one of the Best of the Gold Coast winners ("Best Place to Learn Chinese") by Moffley Publications.

CLSC was recently awarded certification ACTFL OPI certification (May 2009), as well, which enables them to work with middle school and high school students working towards obtaining college credit in Chinese.

CLSC, a non profit organization which teaches Mandarin Chinese to students ages 18 months and up, offers weekdays and weekend programs as well as Before and Afprivate tutoring, Before and After School programs, language and culture workshops, corporate programs, translation and interpretation services, lectures, special events, and their annual Chinese New Year Festival.

"It's extremely gratifying to have been awarded both international accreditations as well as certification by the ACTFL," Serven said. "A group of us started CLSC in the spring of 2002 to introduce children to the fun of learning Chinese, and it's been wonderful to see how our programs have taken off," she continued. "With China's role in the global economy expanding so rapidly, it's critical that our children study Chinese, and we're extremely honored that we've been chosen as the best place to learn it."

Susan and her husband live in New Canaan, CT with their two daughters, Emily Elizabeth Mingjuan Serven (13) and Rebecca Faith Yufeng Serven (9). "

Nicole E. Prowell (Pleasantville/Briarcliff, 2003 )
Nicole E. Prowell (Pleasantville/Briarcliff, 2003) recently travelled to the Philippines to do documentary work with a research team from MIT. The purpose of the trip was to promote and educate health care workers, programmers, and government officials on Moca, a mobile health diagnostics program that will be deployed in the Philippines in the summer. Nicole will create a short documentary from footage of the trip.

Joseph A. Sergi (White Plains, 1992 )
After an extensive selection process, Joseph A. Sergi was selected as Senior Litigation Counsel for the United States Department of Justice, Tax Division.

Joe has a Bachelor of Business Administration from the Pace University Lubin School of Business, a J.D. cum laude from New York Law School, and an LL.M. in Taxation from New York University. After two years as an Ernst and Young Tax Consultant, Joe joined the Tax Division in 1997 in the Eastern Region, left in 2003 to join Scribner, Hall and Thompson, LLP, and rejoined the Division in 2006 in Civil Trial Section, Western Region. Joe also worked in the early 2000s on three large tax refund suits involving Corporate Owned Life Insurance (COLI) tax shelters . More recently, he was lead counsel on a complex tax-exempt trade organization case, and has litigated a number of complex tax shelter cases, including LILOs, SOBs, DADs, FLIP-OPUS, CARDS, and BLIPS. Joe has earned numerous Tax Division awards and the Attorney General’s Distinguished Service Award.

Joe has been a mentor for new attorneys and a summer intern coordinator on numerous occasions, as well as an always-willing informal resource for all attorneys. He currently serves as the lead E-Discovery Coordinator for the Division. In addition, Joe recently joined the adjunct faculty of George Mason University Law School, teaching business organizations
