What is the Student Alumni Board? The Student Alumni Board (SAB) is one of several
outstanding student organizations at Ohio University. The Board was established
in 1978 with intentions to enhance student and alumni relations. SAB provides a
variety of services to make the University at large aware of the Ohio
University Alumni Association and to encourage students to participate in the
educational and social functions of the Student Alumni Board. All of this is
made possible by the diverse, creative, hard-working members of the Board, and
the outstanding support we receive from the staff at Konneker Alumni Center.
Together we bridge the gap between Ohio University students and its alumni.
Overview of
Programs and Activities FALL QUARTER
-Full-Board Retreat:
This is a chance for all SAB members to bond and do team-building exercises.
This is also a way for our members to build friendships that will last a
lifetime!
-Paint the Town Green: This
is our annual community-wide canned food collection drive. We ask local
businesses OHIO student organizations to participate by decorating their
windows for Homecoming, as well as collecting canned food, which we then donate
to the local food pantry. The businesses and organizations compete for
bragging rights as the winner in different categories, including best window
display and most canned food collected.
-Homecoming: SAB
has the opportunity to assist the Alumni Association with many of its events
during the week, including the annual Homecoming parade and the Bobcat Bash at
Tailgreat Park.
-Hayride: One of
the social activities of our organization, Hayride provides a time for SAB
members to bond while enjoying a fall favorite-a hayride, complete with a
bonfire and cookout. WINTER QUARTER -Bare on the Bricks- A Nearly Naked
Mile: This philanthropic event is hosted by SAB and APhiO
as a clothing fundraiser for our area families in need and an awareness piece
for the underprivileged in Athens County. Last years’ event brought in over 300
participants and 1000 lbs. of clothing.
-Sibs Weekend:
SAB helps with the Alumni Association's Sibs Weekend busing. Buses from all
over Ohio and from the Pittsburgh area bring little sibs to OU to visit their
Bobcat brothers and sisters.
-Rohr Room: The
Rohr Room is a hospitality room at Ohio basketball games for the members of the
Trustees' Academy and their guests. SAB members serve refreshments and run a
coat check for guests, many of who are SAB alumni. This is a fundraiser for
SAB, but more importantly, it provides interaction between SAB members and OHIO
alumni, donors, and administrators. SPRING QUARTER -Formal: This is a
social activity for members during spring quarter, and is a wonderful time for
members to invite a guest to an SAB function. It's a fun night to get dressed
up, have a nice dinner, and dance the night away with SAB!
-Car Wash: An easy
and fun fundraiser.
-Senior Picnic: SAB
honors its seniors at this event. A cookout and awards presentation at KAC is a
way to say thank you for countless hours of work and extreme dedication to SAB.
-The Faculty Excellence Award
is given to a deserving professor based on nominations, interviews and student
evaluations. The award is a $1000 grant to be used at the discretion of the
professor. ONGOING -Membership Drive:
Every fall and spring, SAB looks for the best and brightest students on campus
to join our organization.
-Adopt-a-Highway:
This is an event where SAB members work to better the Athens community. This
project involves cleaning up 2 miles of highway to make US Route 50 a little
more beautiful.
-Daily Planner: SAB
designs, markets, and publishes a Daily Planner for all Ohio University
students. It is jam-packed with important dates on the academic calendar,
campus photos, famous quotes and a campus and city directory. This is a major
fundraiser for SAB and a professional experience for those interested in
graphic design, marketing, or advertising.
-Freshman Record:
This serves as a yearbook for incoming students. Filled with photos of incoming
freshman and a list of their majors, hometowns and hobbies, the Freshman Record
also showcases student organizations and other activities at Ohio University.
