Listserv users--
The OCPDX listserv may be used only by Oberlin alumni. Oberlin College
reserves the right to terminate a user’s access to the OCPDX listserv at any
time.
Messages--
The OCPDX listserv is not moderated. There is no editorial review by Oberlin College or OCPDX of messages before they
are sent. Messages and opinions posted on the listserv are entirely those of
the author, and not those of Oberlin
College or OCPDX. Please
do not post any defamatory, abusive, profane, threatening, offensive, or
illegal information or material. Please remember to respect each other at all
times, even in disagreement.
Attachments--
Please do not send attachments. Users of the listserv open any e-mail attachment
at their own risk. Oberlin
College and OCPDX do not
scan messages and attachments sent to the listserv for viruses, worms, or other
computer-related threats.
Subject lines--
Please use a specific/efficient title for your messages. Summarize the content
to attract attention and save everyone’s time. People like to select e-mails to
read based on their subject line--make yours count.
Example Subject Lines:
FYI: - This tells users that the message includes some sort
of general announcement (non-Oberlin event) or news, something to look out for,
etc.
EVENT: - This tells users about an event that is of interest
to Oberlin alumni, such as an upcoming performance, seminar, or
presentation by an Oberlin alumni, etc.
DISCUSSION: - This tells users that the message is meant to
start a discussion or add to an existing one.
REQUEST: - This tells users the message is searching for
something such as advice, resources, networking, etc.
Be Concise--
Please keep your message concise. For discussions, please stay focused on the
topic and make your point as briefly as possible. Please keep in mind that long
and rambling contributions can disrupt the flow of the discussion. Remember to
keep posts relevant to the group.
No One Likes SPAM--
Users should be respectful of everyone’s time. Users should not send personal
or private messages on the listserv. Messages should be relevant to the entire
OCPDX community. Also, please check your facts before posting a message and
avoid copying the list when sending messages to your entire address book.
Be Considerate--
Please be mindful of your language. Paragraph breaks make the message easier to
read. Also, avoid writing in all caps because it will appear as if you are
yelling.
The OCPDX listserv is a valuable resource to all Oberlin alumni living in the Portland metropolitan
area. Together we can build a strong, fun and informative online community.
Thank you!
