Oberlin Asian Pacific American Alumni Association


Overview
(OAPAAA) was approved by the Executive Board in spring 1992 as the Alumni Association's fourth self-defined group. It serves to foster communication and community on issues of interest among APA alumni and students; to provide representation of APA alumni and voice for APA issues and concerns in the Alumni Council and in the College as a whole; and to increase and retain the number of Asian Americans in the Oberlin College community as students, faculty, and staff. A representative serves on the Alumni Council.

Name:
Oberlin Asian Pacific American Alumni Association (OAPAAA)

Purposes:
1) To foster communication and community on all issues of interest among APA alumni and students;

2) To provide representation of APA alumni and voice for APA issues and concerns in the Alumni Council and in the College as a whole.

Leadership:
A steering committee, chaired by one or two persons, which meets at least once a year. Non-voting positions on the committee for the Director of Asian American Affairs at Oberlin College and for one student representative from each of the APA organizations on campus are open and encouraged. Membership on the steering committee is on a voluntary basis. If demand is such that elections are deemed necessary, electoral processes will be established at that time by the steering committee. The term of office for all committee members is set at one year with possibilities for extension.

Membership:
Open to all Oberlin APA graduates and non-graduates.

Current Goals:
Gaining affiliate status, establishing leadership positions and membership.

Possible Future Goals:
Establishing regional groups, newsletter, reunion, winter term sponsor network, strong commitment from the College on recruitment, scholarships, gathering of oral histories.
