THE CIRCLE OF 1848 CHAIR


The Circle of 1848 Chair is primarily responsible for working with the Director of Planned Giving, the Director of Alumni Affairs, the Director of Reunion Giving, and the Reunion Chair and Class Fund Chair to coordinate fundraising efforts and communication efforts for the class, promoting the Circle of 1848 and asking classmates to become a member of the Circle of 1848.

Overall Responsibilities:
  • Be a member of the Circle of 1848.
  • Along with the Development Staff, Reunion Chair and the Class Fund Chair, assist with class solicitations and communications for becoming a member of the Circle of 1848.
  • Attend Development Department training meetings as requested to become conversant in planned giving methods and options and how to have planned giving discussions with fellow alumni.
  • Help to recruit Class agents with Reunion and Class Fund Chairs and help to provide training to Class Agents for Planned Giving and Circle of 1848 discussions during reunion class solicitations and communications.
  • Attend Reunion planning meetings.
  • Attend Reunion Weekend.
  • Encourage classmates to attend Reunion Weekend.

Time Commitment:

  • Serve a 3-5 year term spanning the years before and one year after Reunion.
  • Approximately 15 to 20 hours per year.

Expectations of Volunteers for Staff:

  • Attend planning meetings, either at the College, locally or via telephone conference.
  • Solicit Circle of 1848 membership.
  • Report timely updates on membership and gift performance, most likely via telephone and email.
  • Provide support and assistance in contacting classmates including:
    •  Training on why supporting Muhlenberg is so important, what kinds of support are available and why becoming a member of the Circle of 1848 is important.
    • Current information on College, its facilities, faculty and students.
  • Provide timely responses to information requests and questions.
