Parent Giving
You may not realize it, but the price of tuition, room and board only covers about 85% of the actual annual cost of education each student, which means that every student receives some level of subsidy even without financial aid.
And while it may not seem as significant as naming a building or endowing a scholarship, gifts to The Muhlenberg Fund are critical to sustain the day-to-day excellence of the College. Just as household expenses can make or break a family's budget, the impact of operational costs can make or break an institution. For this reason, the college asks you to support The Muhlenberg Fund by making a gift every year.
Annual gifts to The Muhlenberg Fund have an immediate impact on the campus, and help to shape the experience of nearly every Muhlenberg undergraduate - including your son or daughter - through facilities enhancement, student research opportunities, faculty development and technological improvements. Unrestricted giving makes the greatest impact by giving Muhlenberg the flexibility to place resources where they are needed most.
Your annual gift reinforces your son or daughter's decision to pursue a Muhlenberg degree, acknowledges your investment in the College's academic excellence and reflects your commitment to giving your child the best possible education. Every gift, regardless of size, sends a message that Muhlenberg parents are powerful partners in their children's education.

Parents Council
The Muhlenberg College Parents Council was created in 1992 to forge a partnership between parents and the College for the benefit of Muhlenberg students. Since its inception, the Council has matured into a community of parents who give both their time and support through gifts to The Muhlenberg Fund, and through service, advice and participation in Family Weekend and the Parents Council's annual spring meeting.
Families are an important part of the Muhlenberg community, so it is no surprise that members of Muhlenberg's Parents Council are among the most generous financial donors to the College. Their generosity has inspired remarkable support from Muhlenberg parents as a whole. An impressive 70% of Muhlenberg parents contributed to Muhlenberg in 2007-2008, with gifts to The Muhlenberg Fund surpassing $286,000 (a 29% increase over Fiscal Year 2006-2007), and total giving reaching $1,022,763; this is in addition to the cost of tuition.
Parents Council membership is an important opportunity for parents to strengthen their connection and commitment to Muhlenberg College in ways extending far beyond tuition, room and board. Parent engagement helps Muhlenberg College continue to build its institutional momentum as a top tier private liberal arts college.
Members Parents Council members are a vital resource to both the College and other parents. Please feel free to contact these parents if you would like more information.
Membership Each year, the president invites a select number of parents to serve a one-year renewable term on the Parents Council. Members are asked to support The Muhlenberg Fund with a leadership gift ranging from $1,500 to $10,000 or more, which also ensures their membership in the Henry Melchior Muhlenberg Society (HMMS).
Members not only get a closer perspective on their children's college life through events such as Family Weekend and the annual spring meeting, but also offer valuable advance to the College's leadership on such issues as student life policies, strategic planning and institutional priorities. Parents Council members serve as volunteers and help the College promote its successes as well as its future plans.
Member Benefits During Family Weekend, members of the Parents Council attend both a reception at the President's House (with President Helm and his staff) and a working breakfast meeting the following morning. Presentations on new programs and plans for the College's future are discussed at the breakfast. The Parents Council's annual spring meeting has proven to be a favorite among members. At this event, various members of Muhlenberg's faculty and staff prepare in-depth updates on the state of the College.
