Greetings classmates! Please continue to share your classnotes by sending any updates to me at any of the addresses above. CATHY HARRELL Pennington of Atlanta and her family enjoyed a very full 2012 including 2 trips to Mobile where she got to see BELINDA NORDEN Pitman. She also enjoyed a long weekend visit from ROBIN NEWCOMB Lermo and her family at CATHY’S lake home in Hayesville NC. In October she started working with The Food Movement, a corporate caterer and food truck company. Please stay in touch with her as we prepare for our 30th REUNION just 1 short year away! ERIN SULLIVAN writes that she built a new house in Christiansburg VA this summer and is still the Director of Student Counseling Services at Radford University. Her oldest son, Byron, is a freshman at JMU.  Her twins, Clare and Alex, are now freshman at Christiansburg High School. All growing up so fast! She wishes everyone a Happy New Year. JULIE SLAVIK Budnik Executive Produced the award-winning documentary Big Bets: 100 Years of Southern Company in 2012. Southern Company celebrated its centennial year and the President and CEO; Tom Fanning decided to mark the occasion with a book and documentary. The hour long feature, based on the book by Sam Heys and Dub Taft, premiered at Atlanta’s historic Fox Theatre last summer and made its broadcast debut on the History Channel and local market affiliates in the fall and winter. Not only has this great company survived for a century but it has empowered the South to thrive under the direction of many great company leaders including Wendell Willkie (former presidential candidate) and Alvin Vogtle who’s WWII bravery was depicted by Steve McQueen in the classic movie The Great Escape.  Big Bets is the story of the dreams pursued, troubles encountered, and big bets made.  Julie is the Executive Producer for Southern Company and sister company Georgia Power and lives in Atlanta with her husband Tom and daughters Jordan and Brooke. KELLY PHELPS Winstead sends information about her son, Brent, who will be graduating from Liberty University in May with a degree in Counseling, Theater Arts and Spanish.  Kelly’s husband, Mark, and Kelly are anxiously awaiting their turn for their children to now take care of them after their graduations.  “We are praying Brent will have a position when he graduates!!” In October, ROBIN NEWCOMB Lermo, of Springfield VA, and her husband, Erick, enjoyed a nice visit with MARY KATHRYN HOCKMAN Robinson and her husband, Joe, and with LEIGH ANNE MICHAEL Whitacre and her husband, Lee, at the home of MARY KATHRYN in Winchester VA. JEAN HARRIS-Willetts has 2 beautiful grandchildren. CHIP PURYEAR, III is now a great-uncle and is planning on embarking on a new adventure.

I have been at Farrington Country Club as a bellman for 24 years.” Greetings classmates! Please continue to share your classnotes by sending any updates to me at either address above. CATHY HARRELL Pennington and her family had a wonderful Christmas with family from Atlanta, Mobile, Columbia SC and CT! She enjoyed attending the alumnae/i gathering in the fall and hopes there is a spring event in Atlanta. She hopes to have a gathering with other 1984 Squirrels in the near future (JULIE SLAVIK BUDNIK, GAYLA DODSON AND PAMELA ANDERSON LEIGH). If you are ever in Atlanta, be sure to look her up. She’d love to see you! MARILYN HUGHES Allan writes that she lives in East Dallas (near White Rock Lake) with her husband Charlie and daughter Clara (14). We celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary last October. Clara is in 8th grade now and hopes to attend Booker T, our performing arts high school this fall. I’ve worked for the national center of the American Heart Association since 1990, minus time away for 5 1/2 years after Clara was born. As a family we love tent camping all over the place and for me heaven is doing yoga, planting/tending the flowers in our front yard, visiting our friends in Austin and time at home with our dogs, Lucy and Ollie. Best wishes to all! CARROLL OLIVER has been working for Regus (an international space solution - we have offices, meeting rooms and other places). I’m just enjoying life...the three kids are fine. Hope you all are well. MARGARET TROUTMAN Balanowski and her Boston Terrier, Candy, have been invited to participate in the upcoming AKC dog agility competition. The competition was held in December. ASTER DAWIT’s daughter, Sheda Thomas, is here at MBC as a freshman! MELISSA HENTZE continues to volunteer with the American Cancer Society and also enjoys being a part of the New Orleans Crew of Halloween.
