Joel Barish (Jefferson Medical College)
Joel Barish (Jefferson Medical College) writes, "When we first graduated, I would read the alumni notes and wonder if I would ever retire. It seemed daunting to have my class notes near the beginning of the list, rather than at the end. The day has come and I am now retired. Left the Columbia Univ. faculty at the end of 2003 and taught medicine in Japan, half time since then. But I have reached the mandatory retirement age and have been put out to pasture. Fortunately, I live in San Francsico, which is a terrific city. But, I miss medicine and will soon join the clinical faculty at UCSF and teach a day per week. I never forget how lucky we were to have gone to such an excellent med school.

Mark Posner (Jefferson Medical College)
Mark Posner (Jefferson Medical College) writes, "This is not an update, but a vivid recollection brought back to me upon learning of the death of Dr. Templeton. He certainly had a biting sense of humor accentuated by his Southern drawl. I was a junior or senior medical student observing Dr. Templeton operate. The resident or fellow across the table was so nervous that a drop of sweat fell from his forehead right onto the heart. Without missing a beat Dr. Templeton said "why don't you just shit in it." Without another word he irrigated out the chest and just kept operating. I'll never forget the scene."
