Hot Off the Press!

April 2, 2006 - Moms with Twins, Christina Boyle Cush Needs Your Help with Survey for New Book - Deadline Approaching

Do you have twins or triplets or know someone who does?  Fellow alumnae Christine Boyle Cush is co-authoring a new book with Cathleen Stahl, wife of Rick Stahl, HC 92. Chrissy met Cathleen after moving to Darien, CT from NYC. "We've been great friends ever since and have had an exciting experience coming up with a book idea, getting an agent, getting a book deal, and writing the book," says Chrissy.  But they need your help to finish their research and quickly. If you are a mom of twins or other multiples, they would love for you to take their survey by going to their website http://www.twinsetmoms.com and clicking on the survey tab. According to Chrissy, "the survey takes about 30 minutes to complete, but every mom counts, and the more diversity we get, the better informed our book will be, and the more we will help new moms of twins in the future. You can even encourage classmates and alumni to tell their friends with twins and multiples about our survey. We also have a blog on our website, which we've gotten great feedback on."

Good luck Chrissy and good luck to all those moms with twins!

HOLY CROSS CLASS OF 1992 ? NOVEMBER 2006

It?s never easy to put together these class letters ? work, birthday parties, soccer practice and all sorts of things involved in raising little boys can get in the way.   I am playing hooky from work today ? a cool crisp autumn afternoon.  In another lifetime, I would be playing wiffle ball in the Quad with Kevin Malley and Jerry Tabler, halfway through a twelve pack of Bud cans.  But that was fifteen years ago.  Today ? our two-year old is napping and our four-year old is at school.  So here is my chance to get the class letter done!

NEW ARRIVALS?.

Jen Tschirch was kind enough to give us a baby update on one of her Alumni pal?s.  Jen writes ?Brian and Jill (Addesa) Lane welcomed Madeline Louise Lane to the world on October 21st at 5:55 pm.  She weighed in at 7 lb 11 oz, and she clearly has excellent fashion sense -- she already owns an HC sweatshirt.?

Leigh Ann Kennedy and husband David Poe had a new baby girl, Elizabeth Erin Poe.  She was born April 12, 2006.  The Poe family has been living in Portland, Oregon for the past year and a half.

Britt (Adornato) Van Valkenburg and husband Mark welcomed their son, Michael Dominic, on April 24, 2006.  He is their first child.  Britt also met up with Lauree Nuccio and Jen Evans at Lauree?s bridal shower in May.

Kelly (Ryall) Pokress and Daniel Pokress announce the birth of their son, Henry, on February 23, 2005 in Los Angeles, CA.

Meegan (Matlak) Stamm and husband Brad ?91 announce the birth of their fourth (and final!) child.  Molly Josephin joined Madeline, 9; Ryan, 6; and Meredith, 3, on May 4, 2005.

Charles ?Chazz? Lees III writes, ?My wife Kristen and I are pleased to announce the birth of our son, Charles Henry IV, on May 5, 2006.  Charlie joins big sister Mairead, age 3.?

Suzanne O?Conor and her husband Raymond Fagnant joyfully announce the birth of their son, James Raymond.  James was welcomed in early May by older brothers Christian, age 5 and Matthew, age 2.

Tracey Vumbacco Williams gave birth to twin girls, Ainsley Grace and Marisa Ann, on October 4, 2005.  The proud mom writes, ?The story of their healthy arrival into this world is a long one full of faith, hope, love and lots of prayers.  Having twins is truly a double blessing and we are loving every moment with our girls!?

CAREER NEWS?

As usual, the class of 1992 continues to shine in the professional world.  No word from Kevin Malley on the rumor that Brian Donovan has left McDonald?s for a similar position in the fry department at Wendy?s in Jersey City.

On to the news?

Amy Donnelly Roche writes:  I was recently promoted to Director of Student Services for the Newport Public Schools in Rhode Island.  Although Newport conjures up images of mansions and yachts, the reality of the public schools involves significant rates of poverty, single-parents without diplomas, and recent immigrants.  All of these factors make the job a true challenge.  I?m in charge of all services for students with disabilities, all counseling by the social workers, nursing services, preschool programs, and supports for English language learners.  Wish me luck, as I?ll need it!

Steven Key has opened his own law practice in Roslindale, MA.  Can also be seen on stage in Boston playing Colin Powell in David Hare?s play ?Stuff Happens? until November 11.

Michelle Tourigny writes:  I have begun a new position running the fluorescence-activated cell sorting facility at the Telethon Institute for Child Health Research in Perth, Australia.  We have also finally purchased our first home and are enjoying the fine Aussie Spring weather.

Christine McKegney was nice enough to send me a message yesterday with an update.  Christine wrote, ?Still residing in White Plains, NY.  In June I was laid off from Legg Mason who had purchased my predecessor company Citigroup Asset Management last December.  I had a relaxing summer off.  I spent some time in Ireland visiting family and friends.  In September I started back to work at JP Morgan Hedge Fund Services in Greenwich CT.?

Christine may run into Rory Keenan on the mean streets of Greenwich, as Rory recently started a new job with a Greenwich based Hedge Fund, Libertas Partners.  Rory also has joined the Board of Trustees of Brooklyn Jesuit Prep, a Jesuit-run middle school in Crown Heights, NY.  Unfortunately, I have to sit next to Rory at the Board meetings and listen to all of his bad jokes!

Jennifer (Dawson) D?Andrea wrote in with an update on friends and career.  Jen writes, ?Well, the 549 and Brown House girls are meeting up in South Beach for a mini reunion on November 9-12th.  I will be joined by Merriliy (Mellick) Sturcke, Jenny (Chamberlain) Gooch, Lauren (O?Connor) Sullivan, Kelly (McCullough) Ranney, Karen (Conklin) Johnson and Courtney Herbert.

Other than that, in May of 2007, my husband and I are moving to Las Vegas after our concurrent seven-year stint in St. Kitts.  I will have graduated with my RN in May 2007.  Not sure about moving back to the United States.  Going to be a serious transition.?

Laurie Smith is still working for Playboy and gave us a recent update.  Laurie writes, ?Not sure if this is interesting, but I spearheaded the launch party for the opening of the Playboy Club/Casino in Las Vegas in October--it is the first Playboy Club in over 20 years.  It was attended by Luke Wilson, Paris Hilton and Jamie Foxx.  Paris was dancing on the tables with Bunny ears.?  Laurie ? I thought it was very interesting.  Anytime that I can work Paris Hilton into an HC class letter, I am thrilled!

At Chris Serb?s annual summer beach party, Mark "Nunzio" LaFlamme came in to visit from Indianapolis and Bill Weber did the same from Washington, D.C. Nunz brought his beautiful fianc?e Faina; they're both excited about their upcoming wedding in Mexico.

Also from Chris, while he was in LA over Labor Day weekend, he was able to catch up with Ryan Smith, Genny Castruccio Salamon and Nick Aieta as they celebrated Nick's birthday. All are doing well, Nick is busy with his daughter Willa and Genny has her hands full with two sons.

I heard from Mark Roman who was full of information on a number of classmates ? I see a class letter in your future, Mark?.

?I caught up briefly with Dr. John Espinola and learned of his new job "running the store" and I think that is code for being the Pres or CEO of some health care company out in Seattle - Espi, humble as always.

I learned that Dr. Tom Paluska survived his years of service with the Navy and his most recent tour in Iraq.  He is now settling down in Denver with his new gal.  Tom, THANK YOU for serving!

Boston lost Chris & Hope Auth to MD.  Chris picked up a nice promotion in Real Estate Management, moved back to his roots with his Mom, Dad and brother close to his growing family - they have their second girl on the way.

Dr. Matt "Sheik" Hanley had #3 within the last 3 months and he and his wife are still kicking butt and taking names down in VA.?

One last e-mail that I received last night that needs to be in the letter?

Jim Foard writes in, ?My son Jimmy has been featured in a new family oriented magazine created by Disney called Wondertime.  Thus far, they have printed the first three parts of a 4-part series entitled "A Different Kind of Normal" - the whole series is about Jimmy and our family. I have attached a link to the Wondertime website.  It has been difficult opening our lives to writers and photographers over the past year and a half, but we are quite satisfied with the end result.  We wanted to let other parents of special needs children know that there are families like theirs out there. Jimmy requires a great deal of extra attention and care (most of which comes from my wife Michelle), but he brings us joy in ways that we could never imagine.  The link is http://wondertime.go.com/parent-to-parent/archive.html

REUNION 2007?

Mark your calendars, ladies and gentlemen, our fifteen-year reunion is right around the corner.  Please save the weekend of June 1-3, 2007 and make your way to Worcester any way that you can.  Chris, Maura and I have begun to assemble the team that will put our Reunion together.  Jenn (Thompson) Mermel and George Ross have graciously volunteered to serve as our Gift Chair?s for the Reunion.  We have also had a number of folks volunteer for the Gift and Reunion Committees.  If you have not heard from us ? and our interested in helping out, please feel free to contact Chris, Maura or myself.

Mary (Sullivan) McNiff has volunteered to be our class Webmaster.  We hope to seriously upgrade our class website and provide you with information about the reunion on the class site. We are also looking for ideas to improve the site, and of course pictures that we can download to the website (present-day, as well as circa 1992 will be accepted!).  Feel free to send any pictures to Erin in the Fund Office, or email them to emooney@holycross.edu.

ON CAMPUS?

The Holy Cross Football team is having a wonderful season with a 6-3 record through the first nine games, with a huge game coming up this weekend against Bucknell.  The McGovern family had the opportunity to see the Crusaders in action last weekend at Lafayette, a big 38-28 victory.  It appears that Coach Tom Gilmore has done an excellent job with this year?s squad, and the football program looks to have turned a corner towards prosperity.

Basketball season is just around the corner and the outlook is positive for both the men?s and women?s team.  Coach Ralph Willard has assembled a daunting schedule for his Crusaders, highlighted by games at Duke (on ESPN2), Syracuse, Providence and Dayton.  The Crusaders will be hosting 2006 Final Four participant, George Mason, at the DCU Center in December.

HOLY CROSS FUND?

The Holy Cross Fund that closed on June 30, 2006 was a rousing success, both for our class and the entire school.  The class of 1992 finished with 279 donors, which is 43% of our class.   Our number of donors puts us in the Top Ten of all classes.  We raised $62,549 in Fund Giving, $21,300 in Restricted/Other Giving, coming to $83,849 in total giving.  Overall, the Holy Cross Fund closed at 49.2%, up from 48.9% last year.  Money-wise, 7.75 million dollars were raised by the Fund alone.  The Fund set new records for money raised as well as donors participating.  As this is a Reunion year, we will be asking all of you to strongly consider making a gift to your alma mater this year.  Make your gift before the end of the calendar year to get those tax benefits!

Another option in making a gift to Holy Cross is to designate your money to the Leon Dickerson Memorial Scholarship.  Thanks to the generosity of our classmates who have already been making gifts in his memory, the scholarship is worth almost $6,000.  The fund needs to be at least $10,000 before it can be disbursed, so please consider earmarking part of your gift to this scholarship.

Well, it is now Friday morning and I am back at work ? finishing this letter rather than actually doing my job.  Maura, Chris and I hope that you all have a Happy Halloween and a wonderful Thanksgiving.  We look forward to seeing many of you next June at the Reunion.

Sincerely,

Tim McGovern
