Rogers and McGuire Receive Dental Alumni Awards
The John F. MacNamara Meritorious Service Award Michael B. Rogers 69D
A native of Augusta, Georgia, Michael Rogers attended Emory College and graduated from Emory University School of Dentistry in 1969, and went on to receive a certificate in orthodontics from the Medical College of Georgia School of Dentistry in 1973. Shortly after graduation, he returned to Augusta and began his private practice, which continues to thrive with his partner and son-in-law, Lee Andrews.
In his more than 35 years of practice, Mike has truly been an example of leadership in the dental community. He has served in almost every leadership role within the Georgia Dental Association, and in July 2006, he was elected president. He served as president of the Georgia Association of Orthodontics and has twice been the recipient of their Exemplary Service Award. He designed the first orthodontic assistant certification course in 1988. After serving as secretary/treasurer, president-elect, then president of the Southern Association of Orthodontics, he received the Oren A. Oliver Southern Association of Orthodontists Distinguished Service Award. He is an active member of the American Association of Orthodontists, where he has held many leadership positions, and currently serves on the Board of Trustees and is Secretary/Treasurer Elect. He is slated to become president of the AAO in 2011.
Over the years, Mike has become a featured speaker and published author. Among his key topics are practice management and the Banded Herbst appliance. He has presented at five of the last six American Association of Orthodontists meetings. Since 1973, Mike has served on faculty for the MCG Orthodontic Department. He served as president of MCG Orthodontic Alumni Association, and currently serves on the MCG School of Dentistry Steering Committee.
Mike and his wife, Beth, were married forty years in December; they have four children and seven grandchildren. Mike enjoys running marathons and hopes to get back to golf again when time allows.
To quote Dr. Rogers’ nominator, Dr. Kim Reed, “Mike is tireless about his involvement in organized dentistry, providing a seamless flow between state and national concerns and general dentistry and specialty practices, which is not often seen.” I’m sure each of you knows how important these qualities are in an exceptional dentist.
