Dear Alumni,

Welcome to the Tampa Chapter!   We have a great group here in Tampa Bay, and I hope you will find your place among us.  I have truly enjoyed participating in our group?s events over the past several years, so it is a thrill to be your new chapter leader.  Although our days as students are over, it is my goal to make sure the spirit of our various Emory experiences has not been left behind.   One of the things I really loved about my time at Emory was the sense of community around campus.  I believe that same sense of community has been carried down here from Atlanta through all of you and is what makes our group so wonderful.

Our community is made up of 2,200 total alumni in the Tampa, St. Pete and Clearwater areas.  This number equates to 4% of all alumni throughout the US!  It also means that we are the 5th largest destination for alumni, with only Atlanta, NY, DC, and South Florida ahead of us.  What makes Tampa so attractive to Emory alumni?  I have to think it?s because the Tampa area truly has the best of all worlds.  We have warm weather year round, beautiful beaches, professional sports teams, a culture for the arts, and the delicate balance of having benefits of a bigger city with a smaller city feel.  The Tampa Bay area has really started to come into its own over the past few years with the redevelopment of our downtown neighborhoods and the drive to attract more young professionals.

One of the things you will notice when you come to one of our events is that you will meet both recent graduates as well as older alumni.  No matter when you graduated or which Emory program you attended, we have something for everyone!  We typically organize around 7-10 events throughout the year.  Not quite one per month, but enough to keep everyone in touch and involved.  Our get-togethers have included happy hours, wine tastings, a Rays game in August, and Emory Professors who have come down to speak to our group.  In fact, this year we were very fortunate to have a lovely evening of cocktails and a presentation by President Wagner himself.  We also attended a Lightning game against the Atlanta Thrashers in March and organized a tour of the Raymond James art collection for the month of May.  Every year in November we participate in Emory Cares in which we spend a day volunteering in our community.

I am very grateful to the alumni volunteers who have contributed their ideas and energy into making many of these events a great success.  So if you would like to be more involved in our group or if you have something that you think your fellow alums would enjoy, click on my name below to email me and we can work together on organizing it.

The invitation is here to come reconnect with old friends, meet some new ones, and relive your Emory days with us.   I look forward to seeing you at one of our events.

Warm Regards,
Sara Nicholson 04MBA
