Watch this video to hear what the 2009 attendees had to say!
The goal of the Career Conference is to showcase the wide variety and diversity of careers,
alumni, and possibilities. However, every attendee will have one thing in common: the Duke
experience. The Fannie Mitchell Career Conference is an annual, day-long event that brings
Duke alumni back to campus to share their career experience and advice with current students. Recruitment for 2010 Alumni Panelists will begin in the fall of 2009 - please check back for
more information!
The responsibilities and duties of an alumni panelist are:
- To aid current Duke students with the career exploration process by sharing experiences and offering advice
-
To work together with a small, diverse panel of alumni involved in relating fields
-
To offer one's self as a resource for current students and alumni by answering questions, forging relationships, and providing networking opportunities
|
Please visit us in the fall of 2009 to learn more and volunteer to be an Alumni Panelist!

Although admission is free, we rely heavily on the generosity of alumni to fund their own travel. We have a limited number of travel awards reserved for those in financial need.
Our tagline is "Come as you are. Leave inspired." We want your help to create a casual environment where students can learn and explore without the pressure of cover letters and suits.

Quotes from the 2009 Fannie Mitchell Career Conference:
"Great experience; I only wish this had been provided to me when I was an undergraduate at Duke!"
~ Robert Minor '82, M.D.'86, Global Health & Health Policy panel
"Having the panelists consist entirely of Duke Alums, so that we know they've been in our shoes before [was the most valuable component of the Career Conference]. It makes the transition into the real world seem less intimidating, since all the panelists have survived."
~ Lindsey Emery, Class of 2010 "I thought all the panelists were terrific; bringing a broad spectrum of age, experience, and career path to the discussion. I was very impressed with my Duke colleagues!"
~ Kate Fetterolf '72, Visual & Performing Arts panel
"As a freshman, I didn't know if this conference would even be beneficial to me, but I went and now I have a much better understanding of the career fields I was interested in and I feel like I have the information necessary to choose an appropriate major corresponding to the career field of my interest."
~ Kelsey Ontko, Class of 2012
"I was really energized by my fellow speakers - it was great to see we all share the same passion for Duke all these years later. Indeed, I met a couple of folks that I plan to reach out to for various professional opportunities."
~Pola Changnon '85, Film & Television panel
