David H. Koch '58
At a special ceremony on Reunion Saturday, June 7, David H. Koch '58 was awarded the Deerfield Medal for his unwavering loyalty and extraordinary support of Deerfield Academy. For more than 40 years, Mr. Koch has remained involved with Deerfield. He has served as a member of the Board of Trustees for 16 years (non-consecutive terms beginning in 1981). His astute counsel has been instrumental in shaping the Deerfield experience of the 21st century, and his extraordinary financial support has touched all aspects of the community.
Mr. Koch arrived in Deerfield, from Wichita, Kansas, in 1954 and graduated with the Class of 1958. He was an outstanding athlete and scholar who was elected to the Cum Laude Society, was on the business board of the Scroll, and was a member of both the Fishing and Radio Clubs.
In 1962 Mr. Koch earned an undergraduate degree at M.I.T and in 1963 a masters of science in chemical engineering. Mr. Koch then joined his family's business, Koch Industries, Inc., where he is currently executive vice president and a member of the board.
He and his family reside in New York City, where Mr. Koch serves on the boards of Mount Sinai, New York University Medical Center, Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, the American Museum of Natural History, American Ballet Theater, and more. He is a life member of the Corporation of M.I.T.
