Art Alumni Chapter

The Art Chapter has a long history of bringing its members and the greater Sacramento Community together in celebrating the arts.

Working with the Sacramento State Art Department, the Chapter has hosted the reception of painter and instructor Wayne Thiebaud; brought filmmaker Mark Herzig to present “Scherzo” and speak about cinematography.

In addition to its active on-campus roll, the Art Alumni Chapter has had an equally active off-campus outreach program. Members of the Chapter’s Executive Board had given presentations at local community colleges, instructed and entertained children and brought art to various organizations and schools that would not otherwise had the opportunity.

The Art Chapter was responsible for the critically acclaimed, “Sacramento State 50th Anniversary Show,” a juried show with more than 150 art pieces displayed on four floors of the Sacramento State Library. Next, the Chapter curated the very successful annual juried membership show and in 2004 the Art Chapter’s Invitational Exhibition” was presented in the Sacramento State University Union Gallery. This art show has become the “Annual Alumni Show held in the Robert Else Gallery at Kadema Hall in June of each year.

It gives our Sac State Alums the opportunity to exhibit their art work at Sacramento State.

At the beginning of each year we have a Used Book Sale, sometimes two sales, in conjunction with the Ceramics Student Guild, to generate monies to pay for the expenditures of our annual Art Ball. With the help and support of the Art Department, the professors and graduating students, and also the help of our Chapter members, we all create a wonderful celebration to honor the art students throughout the campus. It is held in the Art Sculpture Lab, the Library Gallery, the Computer Lab, and the Ceramics Department. And the work of the Beginning Drawing students is seen in Kadema Hall. What began as a small celebratory event became campus wide.
