All Cooper ReUnion - October 24, 2009

The All Cooper ReUnion held on October 24, 2009 attracted over 570 alumni and guests, including 32 Cooper Couples. Alumni traveled from 25 states around the country with class years spanning 1942 to 2009. This unprecedented all class reunion, held in the Foundation Building and 41 Cooper Square, celebrated 150 Cooper Years with great fanfare. Festivities kicked off at the new Great Hall Exhibition and interactive Alumni Hall of Fame display. Alumni toured 41 Cooper Square, current art and architecture exhibitions, participated in a drawing workshop and enjoyed a private film screening. The celebration continued into the night with a cocktail party, class reunions by decades and a dance party to end the night.

Class of 1959 Golden Legion Celebration - May 8 2009

The class of 1959 were inducted into the Golden Legion by President George Campbell Jr. A luncheon in Wollman Lounge and guided tours of the schools and 41 Cooper Square took place during the afternoon. The day's events culminated with a visit to the Wesselmann Studios, guided by alumna Claire Wesselmann A59, to view a collection of the works of her late husband Tom Wesselmann A59.

Founder's Day Dinner Dance - April 17, 2009

On April 17th Dinner Co-chairs Judy Gerrard AR'83 and Robert Tan AR'81 and more than 275 alumni, faculty, students and friends of The Cooper Union attended the annual Founder's Day Dinner Dance at The Ritz Carlton New York, Battery Park to celebrate the 150th Anniversary of the founding of The Cooper Union, the 218th birthday of Peter Cooper, and recognize the 25th reunion of the Class of 1984. The CUAA proudly honored the outstanding professional achievements of the 2009 alumni award recipients. Stan Allen AR'81 received The John Q. Hejduk Award for architecture. Abbott Miller A'85 received The Augustus Saint Gaudens Award for art. Dr. Peter Winokur PHY'68 received The Gano Dunn Award for engineering. For outstanding service to The Cooper Union and The Cooper Union Alumni Association John Huddy AR'85 was presented with the Alumnus of the Year Award and Rocco Cetera CE'99 with the Young Alumnus of the Year Award.

150th Anniversary Celebration Wreath Laying Ceremony Feb. 12, 2009

The Cooper Union's 150th Anniversary Celebration was kicked off at the 2009 Annual Wreath Laying Ceremony in Peter Cooper Park on Thursday, February 12, 2009 at 12noon. Approximately 400 Alumni, Trustees, Faculty, Students, Staff and friends attended this milestone celebration. The new-identity for The Cooper Union was launched, the 218th birthday of our founder Peter Cooper was commemorated and The Cooper Union's 150th Anniversary was celebrated. Featuring performances by The Cooper Union Step Team, led by Nicole Salazar BSE 09. The recital of the college's song ?Maroon and Gold? was organized by Stephen Antonelli ME 10, Pro Musica, led by Barry Drogin EE 83/MEE 86 and accompanied by Lucas Scalcione-Hahn ME 10 (guitar) and Mike Pimentel CE 10 (trumpet) and Charlie Diamond CE 10 (saxophone). Cake and cider was served following the ceremony.

Formula SAE Team Presentation & Reception - March 9 2009

The CU Formula SAE Team presentation on Monday, March 9, 2009 in Wollman Lounge was attended by 35 alumni, students faculty and staff.The presentation on the 2009 Formula SAE Design Competition entry was followed by lab tours and a reception. Florida Founder's Day Luncheon - February 2nd, 2009

The Florida Chapter of the Cooper Union Alumni Association held its annual Founder's Day Luncheon on February 8, 2009 at the Lauderdale Yacht Club to celebrate Peter Cooper's 218th Birthday. Guest speaker was William H. Sandholm, Jr. CE'63, Chair of the Master Planning Committee of the Cooper Union Board of Trustees who spoke about how Cooper Union has positioned itself for the future. The 35 attendees included alumni, guests, parents of current students and staff. Harris Levee ME'43 and Keith Lorinos ME'05 represented the range in class years of alumni attending, and they blew out the candles on the cakes in honor of Peter Cooper.

Donor Appreciation Event at Cheim & Read

The Cooper Union Annual Fund Committee Chair, Kathryn McGraw Berry AR 80 and Co-Chair, Robert Tan AR 81 hosted a private reception on November 13, 2008 at the Cheim & Read gallery to view the exhibition Joan Mitchell: Sunflowers. Ninety-eight alumni, parents and friends who contributed to the Annual Fund in Fiscal Year 07 and 08 were acknowledged at this event.

California Bay Area Networking Social

Twenty Cooper Union alumni and their guests from the Northern California Bay Area attended this networking event to reconnect to the Cooper Community.

CU @ The Brooklyn Bridge - A Walk Over The Brooklyn Bridge to see The Waterfalls

More than 40 Alumni, family and friends participated in a Walk Over the Brooklyn Bridge to see The New York City Waterfalls on August 2, 2008. Participants viewed the exciting work of Olafur Eliasson's public art project and the spectacular NYC skyline from the Brooklyn Promenade. They visited such sites as the Fulton Ferry Landing, the Brooklyn Ice Cream Factory, and new public parks between the Brooklyn and Manhattan Bridges. This casual event was organized by Paul Heller ME 53 and Rebecca Uss AR 90.

Alumni Day at Ringwood Manor 2008

Alumni Day at Ringwood State Park, Ringwood, NJ, on September 20, 2008, attracted 65 alumni, family members and friends. Attendees enjoyed a special group tour of Ringwood Manor, the former summer estate of Abram S. and Sarah Amelia Cooper Hewitt, and gathered for picnics on the grounds. Nostalgia seekers hiked the historic carriage road leading to the former Green Camp and reminisced about their experiences and Ron Weinstein CE 67 provided anecdotes.

Design and Construction Networking Event - October 17, 2008

In conjunction with the Office of Alumni Relations, event chair Seth Greenwald, ME'85led an alumni networking event at the Home Delivery: Fabricating the Modern Dwelling exhibition at The Museum of Modern Art followed by a social at nearby Connolly?s Pub and Restaurant. Alumni from all classes, majors and professions were invited to attend to reconnect with peers.

Golden Legion Celebration for Class of 1958

The Golden Legion Celebration honoring the 50th anniversary of the Class of 1958 was held on Friday, May 9, 2008. The Opening Ceremony took place in The Great Hall where the Class of 1958 was inducted into the Golden Legion by President George Campbell Jr. Following the ceremony, the luncheon was attended by 108 people- 70 were alumni from the class of 1958. Golden Legion members of the classes of 1926 through 1957 joined the festivities at the evening reception.

On April 11th Dinner Co-chairs John Huddy (AR'85) and Elizabeth Huddy and more than 260 alumni, faculty, students and friends of The Cooper Union attended the annual Founder's Day Dinner Dance to honor alumni achievements, celebrate Peter Cooper's 217th birthday and recognize the 25th reunion of the Class of 1983 in The Lighthouse at Chelsea Piers. The CUAA proudly honored the 2008 alumni award recipients: The Gano Dunn Award for outstanding professional achievement in engineering: Dr. Ira Whitman (CE'61/MCE'63); The Augustus Saint Gaudens Award for outstanding professional achievement in art: Whitfield Lovell (A'81); The John Hejduk Award for outstanding contribution to the theory, teaching and/or practice of architecture: Alexander Gorlin (AR'78) and Alumnus of the Year: Ronald Weinstein (CE'67).

Over 100 alumni, faculty, staff and students attended this year?s Wreath Laying Ceremony commemorating the 217th birthday of our founder Peter Cooper and celebrating the 149th anniversary of The Cooper Union. Held in Peter Cooper Park Tuesday, February 12, 2008 at noon the event featured the singing of the Cooper Union Alma Mater song led by Antonia Zaferiou ME?10, Pro Musica, accompanied by The Cooper Union Jazz Club, led by Mike Pimental CE?10, Director and a dance performance The Cooper Union Step Team, led by Nicole Salazar BSE?08, Captain. Cake and cider were served following the ceremony.

Art Basel Miami Beach: Private Collection Tour and Luncheon

The Florida Chapter of the Cooper Union Alumni Association hosted a tour of the Rubell Family Collection, one of the leading collections of contemporary art in the world, as part of this year's Art Basel Miami Beach activities. Owner Mera Rubell gave a private talk to the group, and Dean Saskia Bos led a tour through the collection. During a luncheon at nearby Sheba Restaurant Dean Bos provided the locations of Cooper Union alumni exhibiting at the art fair.

Art Auction and Casino Night - October 20,2007

The 7th Annual Art Auction and Casino Night held in the Foundation Building was a record breaking event. Event Co-chairs Yvette Francis A'93 and Scott Lyne ChE'92 organized a fabulous evening for nearly 150 alumni and guests.Guests enjoyed a silent auction of original artwork donated by Cooper Union alumni and friends, including 62 pieces of art and 32 special non-art items. Guests also competed for prizes in an exciting evening of blackjack, poker and craps, complete with the popular poker tournament organized by Yash Risbud EE'92/MEE'94.The event raised $16,917 for the Annual Fund, the highest in the history of the event!

Peter Cooper???s 216th birthday was celebrated with cocktails, dinner, awards and dancing!
