Dear Fellow Columbians in Egypt:
With the inauguration of Barack H. Obama '83CC as the 44th president of the United States and the first Columbia graduate in the Oval Office, we began thinking about the new possibilities that accompany this chapter in history, both between the U.S. and the Middle East and for Columbia in the region. This spring, our alma mater is announcing the Columbia Global Center | Amman, a regional base for Columbia in the Middle East, and all alumni in the region are now invited to interview undergraduate applicants. In these inspiring times for Columbia in the Middle East region, we would like to invite you to join the new Columbia University Club of Egypt.
The idea of an alumni club in Egypt originated with three alumni who congregated in November 2008. At the start of this year, we hope that the conversation can continue with many more of you, our fellow alumni in Egypt. With almost 120 alumni in the country (that we are aware of), we think there is great potential for an association that can provide opportunities for Columbia graduates to socialize, network, and connect with the intellectual experience we all have in common. The club could adopt other missions as we develop according to our collective interests, possibly including community service, informing prospective students about the University to encourage applications from Egypt, and more. Similar to the 80-plus alumni clubs around the world, we would be social and intellectual in nature (and not political despite of the introductory paragraph of the message).
Please click here to express your interest in joining a membership list and to carry on the conversation as we form the club together.
