Greetings from the Columbia University Alumni Club of Westchester! 

We  host social, intellectual, cultural and other events for the alumni of Westchester as well as the New York Metropolitan region for graduates of Columbia's Schools living in this region.  

On Thursday, November 12th, the club held its Annual Fall Dinner at the Scarsdale Golf Club.   This year, we were pleased to welcome Dean Nicholas Dirks, Executive Vice President of the Arts and Sciences, Dean of the Faculty and Franz Boas Professor of History and Anthropology.  Dean Dirks gave a talk entitled, "Scholars and Spies" which examined the origins of the US Office of Strategic Services (OSS) and its ties to the academic world.   Also, that same evening, the club bestowed its annual scholarships to students from the Mailman School of Public Health and the School of Social Work.

In addition to our Annual Fall Dinner, we recently hosted a seafaring dinner and twilight cruise that lauched from New Rochelle, and as it traveled down the East River, featured spectacular views of New York and amazing fireworks as we passed under the Brooklyn Bridge.  In addition, we joined our  fellow metropolitan clubs in hosting our annual brunch at the West Point Officers Club.  The brunch gave us the opportunity to meet our incoming Provost, Alan Brinkley, who gave a fascinating talk addressing the first 100 days of the Obama Admininstration. 

The club is in the process of planning an exciting calendar of programs for the coming year, which we hope will appeal to all of you.  This will include more faculty speakers and family events as well as cultural and other activites.  We would enjoy hearing any suggestions you may have, and will be sending out interest surveys to solicite your ideas in order to ensure our programs fit the needs and interests of our alumni community in Westchester County.
