Club News.  Over 80 Columbia alumni attended a very successful ?Welcome to Boston to
2008 Graduates & Networking Event? hosted by Columbia University Club of
New England at Tommy Doyle?s in Kendall Square on Thursday, September 18. Michael
Griffin, newly appointed Executive Director of Alumni Relations, traveled up
from Morningside Heights to attend the event and meet Boston area alumni.
Special thanks go to alumna Sally Jackson of Boston Beer Company (Sam Adams)
who provided special sponsorship for the networking event. Alumni from 13 of
the 16 schools of the University attended the event and the years of graduation
ranged from 1959 to 2008. A good time was had by all. Scholarship News
Alexandra Ciraldo, Columbia College Class of 2011, is this year's recipient of the CUCNE Scholarship Fund. Alexandra
hails from Cape Elizabeth, ME and she is interested in international
relations, psychology and journalism. In high school, she founded and
ran the World Affairs council, interned at her US Representative's
office, edited and wrote for her school paper, swam four years on the
varsity (team captain) and was co-president of her school's chapter of
Operation Smile.
After her father was diagnosed with brain
cancer during her sophmore year of high school, Alexandra developed an
interest in cancer research and spent the following summer working as a
lab assistant at MGH.
