the first issue of e-News from AU. We know that staying in touch
with Adelphi is important to you, and, with this monthly newsletter,
produced by the Office of Public Affairs in partnership with the
Offices of Alumni Relations and Advancement, we can keep you updated
on major campus news and the achievements of faculty, students, and
alumni in a timely and coordinated manner.

Lacrosse Captures NCAA Title Adelphi women's lacrosse
captured the NCAA Division II championship, for the second time in
two years, with a 16-8 win over West Chester
University.

Senator Hillary Rodham
Clinton Gives Commencement Address Senator Hillary
Rodham Clinton addressed over 2,600 Adelphi graduates at
Commencement 2006, encouraging them to overcome their inhibitions
and "dare to compete." Senator Clinton was awarded an honorary
doctorate as were Brian D. McAuley '61, co-founder of Nextel
Communications, Inc., and Lilo Leeds, co-founder of the Institute
for Student Achievement. View

$8.5 Million
Gift Sets Adelphi Record School of
Education Named for Ruth S. Ammon '42 Adelphi Trustee
Carol A. Ammon M.B.A. '79, founder and chairman of Endo
Pharmaceuticals Inc., made history at Adelphi with an $8.5 million
gift to the University-the largest in Adelphi's 110-year history. In
recognition of Ms. Ammon's generosity, Adelphi has named the School
of Education the Adelphi University Ruth S. Ammon School of
Education in honor of Carol Ammon's mother, an alumna of the class
of 1942.

Breaking Ground for
New Buildings On Monday, June 12, Adelphi celebrated
the groundbreaking for its largest campus enhancement project since
1929. The project, to be completed in 2009, will bring a new
multiple-building instructional, performing arts, and recreation
complex to the eastern side of the Garden City campus, as well as
other additions and improvements. More on the campus

Professor
Zodikoff Wins Hartford Grant to Study Aging on Long
Island An aging population is creating new social and
health care needs across Long Island and the nation. School of
Social Work Professor Bradley Zodikoff is one of twelve faculty
members nationwide to receive a prestigious two-year, $100,000 grant
from the Hartford Faculty Scholars Program to further his research
on the mental health needs of older adults and barriers to care.

Derner
Welcomes New Dean This month, Dr. Jean Lau Chin begins
her role as dean of the Derner Institute for Advanced Psychological
Studies. A licensed psychologist with more than 30 years of
experience in the field, she was previously dean and professor of
the California School of Professional Psychology at Alliant
International University.

Softball
Finished Banner Season The softball team made it's
third NCAA Divison II Regional appearance and finished the season
with a 33-17 record, making it the sixth time in 12 years that the
team had 3 or more wins.

Wes
Green '06 Named Div II Lacrosse Player of the
Year Lacrosse player Wes Green '06 made Adelphi
history with records for most single season goals scored (62) and
most Division II career goals (149). Successful in the classroom and
on the field, he has won the Division II Player of the Year award
from the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association, among
other accolades.

McEntee '06 Named Nassau County Athlete of the
Year Women's soccer player Shannon McEntee '06 was
honored as the Conde Nast Female Athlete of the Year by the Nassau
County Sports Commission.

Seven
Inducted into Hall of Fame The Department of
Intercollegiate Athletics inducted seven Adelphi athletes into the
Hall of Fame at its 36th annual Hall of Fame dinner.

Golden Reunion with a
Twist Adelphi welcomed back members of the Class of
1956 as well as their friends and families for a special reunion.
The returning graduates took part in the Commencement 2006
festivities, were honored at a special lunch, and toured a
much-changed campus. One alumnus said, "I can't wait for my 55th
Reunion to come back again!" Class of 1957, you're next! View
