	UCD bestows Ulysses Medal on Author Edna O'Brien The first book Edna O'Brien ever bought was Introducing James Joyce by T.S. Eliot. She once said that Joyce's A Portrait of the Artist as a Young Man made her realise that she wanted to spend her own life writing.
	First woman to pilot NASA space shuttle honoured by UCD. Eileen Collins, the first woman to pilot and command a NASA space shuttle was conferred with an honorary Doctor of Science by UCD on Wednesday 14 June.

UCD Alumni Online Community Launched Alumni communications has moved into the Internet age at UCD with the launch of the UCD Alumni Online Community. The online community supports a range of features that allow you to communicate with your fellow alumni. It includes an online directory which allows you to search and find contact details for alumni, class notes that allow you to let your old class mates know what is happening in your life and for those who may be creatively challenged it will even generate you class notes for you. The online community also provides a listing of all upcoming alumni events and a permanent forwarding email address which will take the hassle out of distributing your new email address each time you change email provider. So no matter where you go in the email world you will always be contactable at your alumni.ucd.ie email address. To register for the Online Community go to

Fulbright Jubilee Directory

The Fulbright Programme in Ireland was established in 1957 and was administered by the Scholarship Exchange Board (An Bord Scoiláireachtaí Cómhalairte). This was replaced in 1992 by a statutory body, The Ireland-United States Commission for Educational Exchanges - more generally known as The Fulbright Commission.

If you received an award to study in the US from either the current Fulbright Commission, or its predecessor An Bord Scoiláireachtaí Cómhalairte, we would like to include your details in the Fulbright Jubilee Directory. UCD Karate Club

A committee has been established to organise the 30th reunion of the UCD Karate Club. The committee is made up of both current club members and alumni personnel and March 2007 is the proposed date for the big night, most likely the weekend immediately before or after St Patrick’s Weekend (which falls on a Saturday in 2007). UCD Budweiser Sports Achievement Awards 2006 UCD sportsmen and women from 26 different sports clubs were presented with specially commissioned medals by the UCD Vice-President for Students, Professor Mary Clayton at the UCD Budweiser Sports Achievement Awards ceremony on the 24 May 2006.
