MUSTANG
ARTIST DIES:
One of OU’s well-known sculptures is Mustang (Mesteño),
given to OU in 1998. With its ruby red flashing eyes
and sleek form, Mustang has prompted much commentary,
winning many fans and even provoking college pranks.
In a tragic postscript, a larger version of the sculpture
was the cause pf the accidental death of the artist.
Luis Jiménez was killed while supervising moving
a section of the giant twin sculpture for placement at the
Denver International Airport. Now OU’s Mustang
is a memorial to the final work of the artist.

transportation for soccer in 1958, as this story in Sooner
Magazine attests.
