Welcome to the CMBAA Home Page

We are here to cultivate and facilitate a highly effective network for Black Alumni; to encourage a spirit of mentorship to students; to highlight achievements of alumi and students; and to assist the University in its efforts to grow and support a diverse community.

Below are available programs and ways to get involved:

Mentoring Program
A small group that will meet on campus four times each year to run seminars and working panels that will hear from the students and share ideas for their growth and development. In turn, the mentoring group will connect to students and build bridges to specific Alums and mentoring resources that can further address the concerns and issues of each specific student. Please email Bill James if you are interested in the mentoring program.

CMBAA/SPIRIT Newsletter
Quarterly review that is sent to all students and alums who subscribe free of charge. The purpose is to communicate developments, applaud accomplishments of students and alums, express concerns, and network.

Dues and Finance
Based on a recommendation from our annual meeting our dues has been set at $50. This structure is set low to encourage sign up and buy in so that our active membership will grow. While dues payment is encouraged for all alums, we are most interested in your involvement and contribution to our developing organization. This is especially true for recent graduates while memories of your Carnegie Mellon experiences are fresh.

Regional Clusters
Provide networking and relocation assistance. This will serve to build interest and camaraderie among alums and provide a way for relocating and new graduates to find support when they begin work in new locations. Our Clusters also provide strength in numbers to connect with regional programs sponsored by the general Alumni groups. Please email Ashley Brown
if you are interested in regional clusters.

SPIRIT Song
An annual publication that will compile creative works of alums and students: prose, poetry, and art work. This publication will debut at Spring Carnival 2010 and become available via donation to all the alums (free to students). Over time we can witness a chronicle of thought and development. We will name a student editor, Spirit Fellow, who will receive a fellowship to oversee the publication. (Donation opportunity coming soon!!)

Annual Alumni Support
Supports Buggy, Fashion Show, and Book Programs. Click here to give a gift for this program and designate your gift to "SPIRIT" or "SPIRIT Buggy" in the "other" box.

Support/Emergency Fund
Spirit Gift fund that will be managed in Pittsburgh by a small group (acting on behalf of CMBAA) that will, on a case-by-case basis, award monies to student applicants for books, travel, conferences, and special programs. (Donation opportunity coming soon!!)
