Letter from the President -- Fall 2012
Hi Everyone -
Hope you are all well and had a pleasant summer despite the extreme
weather. Thankfully, our 45th reunion weekend in June turned out to be
(mostly!) sunny with comfortable temperatures -- always a big plus for
Ithaca. Having just attended the Reunion, I really wanted to connect
personally with all of you.
Many attendees said this reunion was the best yet! Dave Darwin and his
committee did an outstanding job planning, organizing and - with the
assistance of terrific class clerks - hosting a wonderful weekend: from
our class forum with the Frances Perkins ILR Professor, Fran Blau to an
absolutely fabulous "dance" band at our Saturday night dinner dance;
from festive dorm decor to a variety of delicious meals, snacks (and
drinks!) at various locations around campus (you would not believe all
the new buildings!); from lunch with former President and Mrs. Hunter
Rawlings including a serenade by The Sherwoods to "schmoozing" with
classmates in the lounges and at events. And I have not even mentioned
the many university sponsored programs.
It was truly
amazing to witness classmates seeing each other for the first time in 45
years -- classmates "meeting" classmates they had not known while at
Cornell -- and finally, classmates who attend every reunion and have
their own mini-reunions in between, still enjoying this reunion
It was also very
interesting to note that this reunion was very relaxed, people seemed so
at ease with each other -- one classmate said that at this stage of our
lives, it was just nice to socialize and really enjoy each other with
no pretensions, no expectations -- just plain good fun and lots of
And so, the
purpose of this letter is to urge all of you to plan to come back to
Cornell for our 50th. We are hoping to compile a 50th Reunion Yearbook
(remember our fabulous 25th Yearbook) which will certainly entail some
input from all of you. (You don't have to start working on that just
yet!) I will probably (definitely) revisit this subject many, many
times in the years to come because I feel so strongly that coming back
to Cornell is such a worthwhile and gratifying experience.
In addition, since
our 45th was so fresh in my mind, with so many wonderful memories -- I
wanted to share some part of it with those of you who did not attend.
You can check this website to view pictures from the weekend AND, it
would be great to see every single one of you at our 50th.
Mark the dates on your calendar: June 8-11, 2017!
Have a wonderful Fall, a safe winter and a fabulous year.
And, oh yes, pay your dues and send news to Dick Hoffman, the best Class Correspondent ever!
Best to all,
Marjorie Greenberg Smith
