Focus on Social Media

LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter are not just for your kids anymore.

California State University, Fresno, students are joining with the Mass Communication and Journalism Alumni and Friends Chapter, Fresno Advertising Foundation, The Better Business Bureau and the Greater Area Fresno Chamber of Commerce to present an informational breakfast on Social Media Marketing. Tickets are available at www.fresnoadfoundation.org.

Two experts on Social Media, Stephen Years Technology Strategist and Social Media guru, and Anne Marie Begley, Vice President, New Media Sales at LSN, Inc. will be guest speakers at the breakfast. Attendees will be provided with information on how to use Social Media for personal and business growth.

“As sources and voices join the online conversation daily, it becomes impossible to base an entire brand on traditional means of marketing,” said Years. “Brands need to gain an understanding of new dynamics in media to ensure that communication is authentically positioned, stays on-brand and reaches the right combination of audiences online and off.”

“It’s a must attend event with great content on marketing via the emerging social media channel,” said Paul McDougal of Paul McDougal Marketing and president of the Fresno Advertising Foundation and the MCJ Alumni and Friends Chapter. “Things change quickly in the communication business and events like these help the business communities stay current.”

The Fresno Advertising Foundation is a 501.c(3) non-profit organization whose primary focus is to enhance the understanding of the value of advertising in the lives of people and businesses in the community and the advertising and marketing industry. For more information on the event call 559) 278-2087.

Signature Events
MCJ Alumni  and Friends Chapter Hall of Fame Event –an elegant wine and hors d’ourves event held the last week in October.  Last year’s inaugural inductee was Ray Steele, former publisher of the Fresno Bee.  Over $4,000 was raised for computer lab improvements.

This year’s event to be held on October 29th  from 6 – 9 p.m. at the Smittcamp Alumni House honors Dr. Roberta Asahina – an advertising icon in the Valley and professor in the MCJ department for 25 years.

TASTE – Take a Student to Eat – Students shadow business executives in the Valley and then all come together for lunch and networking. Many thanks to all the businesses and students who helped make TASTE such a huge success. Over 85 soon to- be- graduates and undergrads shadowed with the 52 volunteer business mentors. This event resulted in many jobs and internships last spring and students are still getting hired from TASTE. Sign-up for TASTE 2010 will begin this February.
