Hello Fellow Alumni, Many of us were involved in numerous service activities while at Boston College, but since then life has gotten very busy. Well, here is your opportunity to return to our service roots. Whether you want to get more involved in community service, build your resume, or simply reconnect with other local friends and alumni, this is for you! The Community Service Committee of your local Alumni Association is dedicated this year to providing you numerous opportunities to show the Boston area that BC graduates are community minded. We will be holding a kick-off event on Tuesday, November 3. Join us to learn more about plans for upcoming community service opportunities, to share your own ideas, and to have a drink with friends. On site will be a Senior Loan Officer to discuss the pre-approval process, an attorney to review legal documents and potential issues, and a CPA to explain the current $8,000 first time home buyer tax credit which is available through December 1, 2009. These local industry experts will walk participants through the home-buying process step by step. There will be short presentations by each speaker, followed by a question-and-answer session.

A Taste of the Festival: Alumni Celebrate the Arts! Saturday, April 25, 2009 Higgins Hall Atrium
Mix, mingle, and socialize with fellow BC alumni, and friends. Enjoy a festive dinner reception with visual art, performances by BC alumni and students, and the presentation of the Arts Council Alumni Award. Beginning at 5:30 PM, you can mingle with friends at a dinner reception with music from some of our most talented BC alumni and students and enjoy several art exhibitions from the festival. At 8:00 PM, you can choose either the University Theater’s presentation of Sweet Charity in Robsham Theater or Dancing with bOp! – which includes five BC dance groups - the BC Dance Ensemble, the BC Dance Organization, Phaymus, PATU, and the Swing Kids Dance Club – dancing live to our award-winning jazz ensemble, BC bOp!.

Campus School Golf Tournament May 4, 2009 Shotgun start 12:00 p.m. Granite Links Golf Course 100 Quarry Hills Drive Quincy, MA 02169
Once again the Boston Chapter is partnering with the Campus School to promote the 13th Annual Campus School Golf Tournament. The event will be held on Monday, May 4, at Granite Links Golf Course in Quincy, Massachusetts. The tournament is scramble style with a 12:00 p.m. shotgun start, followed by a dinner reception and awards ceremony at 5:30 p.m. Included in the festivities are a silent auction, a raffle, and other prize giveaways.
The registration fee for golfers is $155 per player, which includes greens fees, cart, lunch refreshments, and dinner. Registration is on a first-come, first-served basis. Please be advised that per the rules of the golf club, we will be unable to accommodate registration that day. Additional information on sponsorship opportunities, and auction and raffle information is provided here. We welcome alumni and guests who do not wish to golf to attend the awards ceremony. The cost for the dinner-only event is $50 per person.

National Day of Service Saturday, April 18 9:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Rogers Park
On Saturday, April 18, 2009, join fellow BC grads, family, and friends for the Fourth Annual National Day of Service when Eagles throughout the country will participate in volunteer projects to benefit their local communities.
The Boston Chapter of the Boston College Alumni Association will volunteer for spring cleaning on behalf of the City of Boston Parks and Recreation at Rogers Park at Lake Street and Cassidey Park at Cleveland Circle in Brighton. Service hours are 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Service will include raking and removal of leaves, twigs, small brush, litter and similar debris from park lawns, fields and hills. Please bring work gloves and wear comfortable yard work attire. Community parks such as Rogers and Cassidey are vital to the neighborhood. However, without the help of volunteers thorough park preparation is not possible due to the limited resources of the Parks and Recreation department. Please consider contributing a few hours to improve the parks which likely were a part of your community at Boston College.

Gather at Fenway Park with fellow alumni on Monday, April 13, for the 20th annual "Baseball Beanpot." Cheer on BC's baseball team as they play doubleheader matchups versus Northeastern, Harvard, and UMass!
Your $20 ticket includes a general admission ticket to the game, an autograph session with players from the participating schools, and photo opportunities with school mascots, Wally the Green Monster, and the Red Sox championship trophy. After the final game, join the Alumni Association at The Baseball Tavern, just a fly ball away from Fenway, for some great pub food and a cash bar.

Professor John L. Mahoney Recites the “Sonnets of Shakespeare” Wednesday, March 18, 2009 7:00 p.m. Alumni House
Celebrate some of the finest love poetry in the world on Wednesday, March 18, when Rattigan Professor of English Emeritus John L. Mahoney ’50, MA ’52, brings William Shakespeare’s words to life. A cornerstone of academic life at Boston College for more than 50 years, Professor Mahoney will read Shakespeare’s lyrical Sonnets with selections that include “Shall I Compare Thee to a Summer’s Day,” and “How Like a Winter Hath My Absence Been.” Professor Mahoney’s classic style will renew your love of the Renaissance when he recites Shakespeare’s most personal and treasured verses. Advent Day of Recollection December 6, 2008
Before the hectic pace of the upcoming holidays robs your peace, plan now to set aside time for God in prayer. On December 6 we will hold our annual Advent Day of Recollection at the Jesuit Campion Renewal Center in Weston, MA. Beginning at 9am and concluding at 3pm with Mass, we will be led in prayer and reflection by Rev. Casey Beaumier, SJ. We have moved this program to the Campion Renewal Center to accommodate more alumni and to have an opportunity to socialize with some of our retired Jesuits. The featured organizations include, St. Columbkille's, Cor Unum Meal Center, Ignatian Volunteer Corps, Jamaica Service Trip, Heading Home, and Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly. Boston College's Annual Alumni Memorial Mass Sunday, November 2 November 2, 2008 11:00 a.m. Mass
Boston College will hold its traditional annual memorial mass at 11am November 2 at Trinity Chapel, Newton Campus, to remember all its deceased alumni and friends. Immediately following the mass, all are invited to a reception at Alumni House. During the mass, the names of deceased alumni and friends will be placed before the altar and later transferred to St. Mary's Chapel on the main campus where they are prayed over during masses said in November - the month set aside by the Catholic Church to pray for the dead.
