Welcome
Welcome
from the Woods College Alumni Association!
I want to welcome all
graduates of the Woods College of Advancing studies! By becoming an active
member you are giving back the Boston College community that gave so much to
you. Our meetings are held on the second Thursday of every month and present an
opportunity to interact with other graduates both on a social and professional
level. Don't miss this monthly opportunity to make long-lasting connections.
Being a member involves little time from your busy schedule and our only
support is from your annual dues of $25.00, which cover our
operational costs. These costs reflect activities and events for our alumni
base and help us periodically add new events. We would love to expand our board
members with new members so that we can have a successful future. Suggested
activities include cooking class, Boston theater show, Champagne brunch,
Charles River boat cruise, or a Red Sox game. So I encourage you to make an
impact today by getting involved with the WCAS Alumni Association!
If you have not paid your WCAS Dues, you may do so, by clicking here. Dues are valid for the academic
year, which is June 1, 2012–May 31, 2013. Monthly Meetings
The WCAS Alumni Association meets on the second Thursday of each month at 6:30 p.m. from September to May at the Cadigan Alumni Center located at 2121 Commonwealth Avenue on the Brighton Campus. All alumni are invited to join us at these meetings. We are looking for alumni who would like to become active members of the board so we can plan more events during the year. Please contact Eva Maynard at the Cadigam Alumni Center at 617-552-4757 or e-mail bcwcas@mail.com for more information or to confirm your meeting attendance.

History-It's all in a name!
In-town School-Evening College-Woods College of Advancing Studies
In 1929-30, for the first time, sixty coed students registered at 11 Beacon Street at the downtown center, a joint undertaking of the BC law and graduate schools. At the same time, the extension school began to be held at the original BC site on James Street under the direction of the graduate school and offered a complete four-year college program, culminating in a Bachelor of Arts degree.
The downtown center became a college in 1933-34 and in September 1935 moved to 126 Newbury Street where it merged with the extension school to become known as Boston College In-town. Soon, the College used the entire sixth floor and in 1945 introduced a BS degree in business administration. The In-town School continued to grow in size, and in 1959 it moved from Newbury Street to the Newton Campus as one of the University’s undergraduate colleges of arts, sciences, and business administration. It later became known as the Evening College.
The present name of James A. Woods, S.J., College of Advancing Studies was given in 2002 in Honor of its dean, Father James Woods, S.J.
