WORLDWIDE ALUMNI ASSOCIATION OF THE AMERICAN UNIVERSITY OF BEIRUT (UK) LIMITED

MISSION

The mission of the WAAAUB-UK Limited is to cooperate with the Worldwide Alumni Association of the American University in Beirut ("WAAAUB") in Lebanon in building its ties between the American University in Beirut (the "University") and all its alumni, to engage all alumni in advancing and supporting the education, research and service of the University, and the American University in Beirut and to further support, encourage, succour and help the University advance the education of the people in the United Kingdom and the people of Lebanon and in particular but without prejudice to the generality of the foregoing to advance education in history of art, music, language and literature of the Lebanon and of the United Kingdom (provided always that the Association shall not promote encourage or pursue any political object or purpose whatsoever whether acting by itself or in association with any other body or persons having objects similar to all or any of the objects of the Association).  

OBJECTIVES
 (a) To establish and maintain an Alumni association of Graduates and former students and Faculty & Staff of the University resident in the United Kingdom.
 (b) To promote, encourage, organise and finance any educational establishment, exhibition, seminar, lecture, event or meeting whatsoever.
 (c) To enter into any contracts or arrangements in connection with the furtherance of the Association's Objects or purposes and in particular to enter into agreements with the WAAAUB for the furtherance of the Association's objects.
 (d) To acquire by purchase, lease or otherwise any land or property and to maintain the same in furtherance of the Association's Objects or purposes.
 (e) To purchase, take on lease or in exchange, hire or otherwise acquire any real or personal property and any rights or privileges which the Association may think necessary for the promotion of its objects.
 (f) To provide scholarships or other financial assistance to persons wishing to study at the University &/or who are currently enrolled.
 (g) To print or publish or procure to be circulated (whether gratuitously or not) any newspaper, periodical, magazine, book, pamphlet, leaflet or other document on subjects which are within the objectives of the Association.
 (h) To hire and pay accountants, solicitors and other professional persons to provide services to help achieve the objectives of the association.
 (i) Subject to such consents as may be required by law to sell, let, mortgage, dispose of or turn to an account all or any of the property or assets of the Association as may be thought expedient with a view to the promotion of its objects.
 (j) Subject to such consents as may be required by law to borrow and raise money for the purposes of the Association in such manner and on such security as the Board of the Association may think fit in accordance with Article 53.
 (k) To deposit monies of the Association not immediately required preferably in an interest bearing account.
 (l) To pay all or any expenses incurred in connection with the promotion and formation of the Association.
 (m) to take and accept any gift of money, property or other assets whether subject to any special trust or not for the objects of the Company;

 (n) to raise funds and organise appeals and invite and receive contributions from any person or persons whatsoever by way of subscription, donation and otherwise provided that the Company shall not undertake any permanent trading activities in raising funds for the charitable objects aforesaid;

 (o) To do all such other lawful things as are necessary for the attainment of the above objects or any of them.
