Welcome to
WAAAUB - Jeddah Chapter
Introduction:
Because of the special relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and Lebanon and their close proximity to each other, the AUB alumni chapter in Jeddah has always been very active. During the difficult times (civil war) that Lebanon passed through, alumni throughout the world and those in Jeddah in particular felt that their Alma Mater was in danger. Hence they were moved to act together with the administration to strongly support the existence of AUB politically, administratively and financially.
Committee Members:
With the establishment of the new Worldwide Alumni Association of the American University of Beirut (WAAAUB) and due to the special efforts and encouragement from AUB Alumni Relations Office, the Jeddah Alumni Branch elected a new committee (on April 29, 2008) comprising of: H.E. Mr. Ghassan Al Muallem, Consul General of Lebanon, Honorary President Samir Kreidieh, President Yasser Kaaki, Vice President Nora Al-Jundi, Treasurer Kinda Jazzar, Secretary Sami Farrah & Mohamed Zameli, heads of fund raising sub-committee Hiba Al Hajj, head of Events sub-committee Dina Zameli, head of Data Base sub-committee Members at Large: Ghassan Maamari, Dania Shaaban, Racha Fadda, May Mansour, Nihal Haram, Bechara Fawaz. This year the young generation has succeeded in a masterful way to combine fun, action and devotion with seriousness, productiveness and fund raising.
The Jeddah Alumni Branch Objectives:
1)Raising the reputation of AUB as a leading university in the Middle East. 2)Supporting AUB morally and financially 3)Getting the alumni to know each other better by holding many activities which would result in better cooperation and indirectly in better relationship with the members and their Alma Mater.
Achievements:
So far, the Jeddah alumni chapter has received 39 medals in appreciation of its work. The name of the Jeddah Chapter is among a very few (approximately 14) who are included in the Wall of Fame. Moreover, the chapter has been appointed as a member of the International Advisory Council. In fact, outside of the USA and since the 1980s, Jeddah has been a leader in fund-raising. During 2008, the chapter has managed to collect $4,000,000 for AUB.
